In dehydrogenation reactions, is MnO2 a catalyst, or does it turn into MnOOH? I need to know this, because I want to perform a reaction in a closed vessel, which preferably does not explode due to H2 gas development.

I'd bet on MnO2 + RH2 --- MnO + R + H2O
