Big old still

The vacuum jacketed part is 51 inches tall.

The magnetic timer circuit is not installed in this picture.

I'm not sure what kind of column it is, but it might be a concentric tube column.
It can't be taken apart and you can't see the inside.
Just a long frosted or ground tube inside the silvered jacket.

Looks like I'll need to learn how to determine the number of plates myself if I'm going to know what reflux ratios I need to use.

EDIT: this was supposed to be in latest glassware purchase, but I screwed up.

Well, the magnet isn't doing its job, so I can't distill anything yet.

It was the same set up I used on a shell-type 45/50 head before and it worked there.
maybe this one needs more force.

maybe I'm not even putting the magnet in the right place. The other head had partial silvering and you could see the internals. on this one you can't see much of anything except the drop counter.

I'm assuming the little funnel on a hinge is just above the output spout.
(Don't think I've seen a vacuum jacket on an output spout before. The only thing without jacketing is the thermometer port.)

I have refluxed some vinegar through it today.
I'll see if I can work out the magnet problem tomorrow.

It has no internal funnel.

I suspect what I heard in there was just long un-stayed tubing twanging around.

I suppose the spherical fitting in the output may be for reflux control.
Maybe some sort of mechanical or magnetic plunger.

Oh wow, that is a glass column. I thought it was metal at first; it's just mirrored.
