Yes, we all do. Well, most of us anyway.

Which country are you in?
Have you searched?
You've listed your DoB as July 1989...this makes you 14. And you're asking where to get nitrates and / or other oxidisers.

You could have found all the info you wanted with a search of this forum or just google probably, but now you might well be labelled a 'kewl' and stopped, or banned, from posting.

Do a search - I'll be honest and say that I don't think anyone here will answer your question.

I know. But I won't tell. It's top secret.

Then you should have read the forum rules and searched first. No one here will spoonfeed you.

If your Dad has a degree, and gets you your chems, then why don't you ask him?

Seriously. Just search. I've found all the information I've needed on this site on the topic of KNO3 just by searching.

But since I'm nice:

http://krimzonpyro.com/ep/

Go there and look around, he's got a page on KNO3 and how you should go about purifying it, what brands to use, etc.

Ask your dad to get you some; after all he is a chemist:D

What will you do with this KNO3 if indeed you got it?

What if, what is isn\'t true?

The best gardening products to extract KNO3 from are those which list KNO3 as one of their ingredients.

Did you even see the thread "Obtaining Potassium Nitrate"? It's it 2 below this one. You couldn't see fit to post in there? Even look in there?

If you are as proficient in pyrotechnics as you say you are you should have no problems. It is a rather important chemical to pyrotechnics. Basis of many things. Your parents both having access to chems to get for you? I don't see how you are having trouble, unless you ::gasp:: lied/overexagerated. Now, no one would ever do that.

Well, you're almost certain to find the information without our help. So I'll give you
a couple of hints, in spite of what I remember of my own recklessness as a teenager.

We are trying to protect you from yourself, not patronize you.

What you're looking for is a fertilizer with an NPK rating of "13.5-0-46.2". That's pure potassium nitrate. Normally those numbers are rounded up or down, so it might be called "14-0-46" or "13-0-46" or even "13-0-47" or "14-0-47" or similar. I'm sure you'll figure it out. A simple phonecall to a fertilizer distributor asking which of their fertilizers is pure potassium nitrate will do the trick.

Now don't go and disfigure yourself, I'd like to be able to sleep in the future. I remember the kinds of things I did as a teenager....

Punks

I know everyone has their reasons for their answers, but it doesn't change that you guys are acting like a bunch of assholes, and I mean this in the nicest way possible. (laughing, I forsee a huge flamewar against me coming)

Would it not be easier to just say 'Read the rules and then search, this has been covered before'. To me, quite a few replies sound very elitest. Many forget where they came from.

Quit trying to make this place like the Hive. Drop the mean 'tudes and recognize that you attract a body of young interested pyros, and roll with the punches. Or start a flamewar and roast me. I don't care, I can take insults too, and I got my point on the board, so go for it.

No flames coming your way from me, Turel. I agree with you. In fact, I regret answering.

Edit: Hmm. Did my answer sound elitist? I tried to think like a 14-year old when I wrote it...

Edit2: Hmm. It seems that whatever I write, I manage to sound like a pompose arsehole...

Escuse me, but black powder is composed by (by weight):
75% KNO3
15% charcoal
10% sulfur

So with 3g of sulfur, one could theoretically make 30g of black powder.

stump remover

At my local garden nursery and at the Farmer's Exchange they sell stump removers in 1 lb boxes. The only ingredient listed on the package is KNO3. I'd try those before messing with any mixtures.

In the future I recommend you go immediately to Mr. Fish's most excellent list of "Readily Available Chemicals." Use the search feature of this forum, it works well.
