I am curious to know what the industrial uses of KMnO4 are.

IIRC KMnO4 is used much for oxidising organic and inorganic poluttions in industrial waste water.

Don't forget that it is sold at hardware stores to oxidize metalic impurites in water softeners. It can be quite economical if you buy it at 5 pound qtys.
