Stock System


Today, my teacher marked something off on a worksheet I had to do.

Question: Write the stock system for NO2
My answer: Nitrogen Dioxide
Her answer: Nitrogen IV oxide

I thought that the roman numerals only applied to metals with multiple oxidation numbers, but I guess nitrogen could have multiple oxidation numbers too, but this seems wrong to me. Is it?

both answers are correct.
You can say the oxidation number, but you must not. It is better, in the case that a element often has different ox. n..
