Ok I understand these concepts just the wording of the question and the maths is what gets me. Mabye you all could help me figure this out please?? It would be much appreciated.

Just question #1 and #2. I dont know how to do #1 so in turn cant do #2 as well.

You're looking for the minima in the curve of E, i.e., when dE/dr = 0.

Your derivatives are a matter of the power rule for derivatives.
