NEWS: Bomb scare after illegal chemicals found at home of 'pyro enthusiast'

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/bomb-scare-after-illega...

It's from earlier this month but I happened to stumble upon it today. Was this anyone we know?

BY LUCY THORNTON

A man has been arrested as residents on the street in Bridlington, East Yorkshire were told they might not be allowed back home for 24 hours.

Bomb disposal experts swooped on a house after police found illegal chemicals inside the property.

Forty homes were evacuated by police as a warrant was executed in a pre-planned operation.

Officers were called in following reports of illegal chemicals being stored at the East Yorkshire house.

A 54-year-old man was arrested and is assisting police with enquiries.

SWNSSwooped: Police converged on the home this morning
The man at the centre of the swoop claims on a social media page he is a ‘chemical enthusiast serving the chem and pyro community with chemicals.

Professionally, competitively and courteously’.

Residents on Oxford Street in Bridlington were told to pack an overnight bag and find somewhere to stay for at least 24 hours.

They were warned they could be away from their homes for a “considerable period of time”.

SWNSIn custody: A 54 year-old man was held after the raid
A resident, who wished not to be named, said: “The street has been cordoned off by police and they are attempting to clear some of the road of vehicles.

“Talking to the police, we might have to leave the premises for a considerable period of time. They have told us we could well be out of our homes for a minimum time of 24 hours.

SWNSPrecuations: A 100 metre cordon was erected around the property
“We have been told they will keep us up to date with any developments.”

Specialist officers are in attendance as part of the warrant including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Sounds like a pyro supplier operating out of his home. Did he have the proper permits (if any) to do that from a residence? I wonder which chemicals were "illegal." I don't know what the laws are like over there.

A year or two ago the UK introduced laws to make anything less benign than baking soda pretty much illegal.

Seeing as they have a web shop (i.e. not hiding) it all seems totally over the top.

It'd be interesting to know how it all happened.

The person under investigation is me.

As this is an ongoing police investigation I kindly ask SM Management to close this thread. SM is now being surveilled too, so it is not in our interest to babble about this.

All will be revealed when the investigation has run its due course.

Thank you.
