Well time to start making SO3 and Bromine! (Ampoules)

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Kimble-12010L-2-Borosilicate-Glass-1...

So if any one ells is looking that's a great deal!

10ml break neck ampules.

Now I just need to find 25ml, 50ml, 100ml.

Method of safely opening ampules (I think I want to make this into an "All about ampules and their uses" thread)

Faster and more regular than abusing some test tubes-

Curious to know how you are planning to fill ampoules with (liquid?) SO3?

(Edit)
Several good ampoule making and use threads come up on a quick search, perhaps look through these existing threads and reactivate the best/most pertinent one?

Rapopart’s Rules for critical commentary:

1. Attempt to re-express your target’s position so clearly, vividly and fairly that your target says: “Thanks, I wish I’d thought of putting it that way.”
2. List any points of agreement (especially if they are not matters of general or widespread agreement).
3. Mention anything you have learned from your target.
4. Only then are you permitted to say so much as a word of rebuttal or criticism.

Indeed will look into it, as for how to fill, was going to use a dropper using care full temperature control, or vapor exchange by cooling the ampule and condensing it right in ampule till full.

Once I get them I'll figure out the best method to use, but they are the 2 main systems I'm considering.

(What search term did you use? I tried finding them)

With a tired and heavy heart, i'll just ask (in a very uninterested way):-

"How do you propose to make liquid sulphur trioxide and bromine",

... then just drink myself into oblivion, again, and go to bed.

In the meantime, you can google, then post a lot of references.

That particular M.O. has been seen on this forum countless times.

Having tried to seal ampules before, I can say that sealing small ones is hard, 5-10 ml is harder, and bigger ones are really tough. I would stick to small ones to start. Good luck. BTE, I don't have any larger seal-able ones, the largest I have had is 5 or 10 ml. And septa top ones won't work with bromine or SO3.

indeed I wouldn't be using the septum vials for that any ways, they will be for another project I hope to accomplish in due time as my toolage gets better.

1,4 diflouroethane makes sealing volatile stuff much easier.

Now just need to set up my hoffman apparatus for H2/O2 torch gas, Now real question is do I have my split tip or do I need to make one!

I do have experience with glass vials used them befor on more then one occasion, I'm just excited to get them at a good price and figured make a consolidated thread on them, there is allot of threads on specific topics, trying to weed out good solid ones with pics in tact and add them here.

Once they arrive I need to set up my gas generator for the sealing rig. and if I have lost the torch tip make a new one (I'll show how to do all of the above as it is don, but will be slow as lots to do now snow's melted)

Trick to effective ampule sealing is good strong focused heat. I normally use Oxy propane, but been messing with oxy hydrogen and growing fond of it. mostly how cheap and easy it is to make on demand Vs messing with cylinders, even the MC size can get annoying with the space they take up.

A nice tip can be made via some copper capillary tubing scavenged from a fridge and a small length of 1/4 copper pipe to give two nice narrow flame jets, with a 35 degree upward bend to focus the heat up ward on the ampule, the glass will pull over and seal under it's own surface tension.

Silver braze the copper torch tip too other wise will be short lived project lol.

Well out of 144 103 survived in good shape, 13 damaged but usable, and 28 damaged beyond recognition!

Again thanks to shippers ruff handling, I miss the days when they actually handled fragile packages with care!

Seller could have don a tiny bit better on packaging but really if handled properly it'd been fine

Seems not as rusty at sealing as I thought either! don by propane torch
