Sigh. You find elements in the periodic system --- "compounds" has several meanings depending on context.

Now these kinda questions piss me off.

"Hi, I'm too fucking lazy to grab my chemistry textbook which has the answer on the first ten pages. Also, I'm too lazy to type www.google.com in the address bar of my browser. So instead I decided to go and bother you guys with this so I don't need to get off my lazy ass."

:mad:

I agree that it was a kindergarten question, but my answer was intended as irony, which is an art in itself.

Heh I actually enjoy these questions...something I can answer easily and work on my "harmless" status.

I think the definition for elment given earlier is good, but here is a definition of compound from google when I typed "compound definition"

(chemistry) a substance formed by chemical union of two or more elements or ingredients in definite proportion by weight

Df = (D1-D2)+(D2-D1)

D1 = Definition of Element. (use Dictionary.com look for the word "chemistry";)
D2 = Definition of Compound.

Perhaps you should research it a tiny bit, then restate your question to find specifics... however in this case, you will not need to.

Now i hate people who dunno anything about chemistry and ask such questions. I am asked many questions like that in my chem class.

But as always, i am willing to help. Elements consists only of the same type of atom in the whole molecule. Like sulphur powder, chlorine gas, sodium metal, iron sheet, copper wire. These are elements, they consists of the same type of atoms only. You can find them in the perodic table.

Compounds are two or more elements chemicallly bonded together to form a molecule. They have different properties from their constituent elements. Like table salt, paper, you yourself, blah , blah.

Thats all to it. Just in case you will be wondering, mixtures are two or more substances NOT chemically bonded together.

Sweet!

an element is the simplest form of matter which is indivisible by chemical means...

a COMPUND is a Glasgow semiconductor conglomerate.
