H2O2. 2.5 years and still 35%

It seems that adding H3PO4 as a stabiliser and keeping it in the fridge does the trick. I titrated that as well as some new stuff and it's still over 35%.

I used that in a performic the other day and it seems like it did the trick.

Did you add the H3PO4 yourself? If yes, how much?
I am interested in extra stabilization for my H2O2 if it is really that efficient!

0.2% orthophosphoric acid. Got it from a friend who added it himself. Don't know if it was V/V or what ever. It probably doesn't matter.

I have also heard adding tartaric acid, 0.5% works better.
I think the trick is keeping it in acidic conditions, but the acid musnt be able to react with the H2O2, eg Ethanoic acid, H2SO4 ect...

Out of curiosity, you claim the H2O2 is 35% just becasue ot worked in a performic reaction, or because you titrated it?
A 25% H2O2 would surely work with performic too...

It was titrated.

I now have a 53% solution in stock with no stabilizers. How do I work out how much orthophosporic acid to use?

If you can't work that out, you couldn't possibly have calculated a titration.:D

How dare you make an unfounded statment like that! If you are here to cause trouble why not join some radicle right wing forum.

Can anybody answer the question or am I not allowed to ask questions that are too simple for some. Why should anyone feel apprahensive about asking. Is this forum free to the whole world or not?

Jesus Christ, The question is simple.

How much orthophosporic acid can you use to stabilize a 53% solution of H2O2. I know how to stabilize a 35% solution.

I'm not going to be stupid enough to add acid to a stronger solution and think that it will be stabilized in the same way as the 35% with out being sure first. That's why I'm asking, because I don't know.

Why do you think it's a simple question? "I know how to stabilize..." Then tell us how. Do you need a specific pH, phosphate concentration or what? What do you want us to be stupid enough to assume? If you asked something specific you might get an answer.

You might have a better chance of getting an answer if you provided some reference or otherwise showed some initiative. At least one book has been written on H2O2. Have you tried to find that book? Have you Googled or searched the ACS publications? If you did and found a reference you could ask for help getting it. Have you searched the patent literature?
Quote:
Riechert, in U.S. Pat. No. 2,027,838, has proposed stabilizing hydrogen peroxide solutions with pyrophosphoric acid, or the product of an acid and tetrasodium pyrophosphate. Preferably, the solutions are kept at pH 1.5-4.5.

As inept as you seem to be, I don't think it unwarranted to doubt you could perform the titration and calculate the concentration.

I don't know if it really work, but the think that i am sure,is that in the 9% H2O2 that i buy at the drug store, they put H3PO4 and NaOH to stabilize it...
