NONA was first patented by the U.S. Navy in 1973 (http://www.pat2pdf.org/patents/pat3755471.pdf). The ChemDraw summary is attached.
It was stated that it has an impact sensitivity of 39 cm compared to TNT's 160. It has high temperature stability & is described as being more
powerful than TNT.
From the ONT patent described yesterday, ONT was said to be equivalent to NONA in terms of performance. Please note that NONA is much more expensive
to produce as the yield is only 21%. (This was due in part by the competing Ullman reaction of 2 picryl chloride molecules to form
2,2',4,4',6,6'-hexanitrobiphenyl as the major product).
