smallest recommended amount to distill in a 24/40?
i was wondering what an approximate may be for the smallest amount of liquid to make it worthwhile to distill in a 24/40 distillation setup?
i would assume that a small amount of liquid, say 15ml of any liquid, would be a complete loss trying to distill in a 24/40 due to mechanical losses.

Really, it's up to you. The lower you go, the lower the % recovery, to the point you've mentioned--when you'll get nothing but holdup.
Probably the minimum would be 25 mL or so (using a 50 mL round bottom), but you'll get low recovery. Below that, definitely go to either 19/22 or
14/20.

Yup, and holdup really depends on the type of fractionating column and head in use.
A distillation chaser can help to some degree.

I use a short path still I had made in 24/40 and I do use a chaser sometimes.
