Synthesis of chloropicrin from chlorobenzene
To 100 ml 96% H2SO4 add 20 ml 90% HNO3 and
than 10 ml of chlorobenzene. Stirr the mixture at 120 C
for 2 hours and do not overheat, it necessary cool
and control with a thermometer. Use a reflux equipment
and protect from toxic fumes when you overheat the mixture.
Than let cool the mixture, add slowly 1 litre estilled water
and let stand for 2 hours at 5 C.
Filter out the yellowish mass with mp. + 8 C ?
