The first mercury I ever played with as a child was from the tilt switch in a broken house thermostat. It had at least several grams in it. In my
teenage years I did get some from tilt switches on eBay but the biggest 'score' was from a mercury filled plumb bob that I bought, it had almost 200
grams of mercury in it. Cost was around $10 shipped.

$70 now, Progress. It's surprising, considering the likelihood of reporting for containing Hg which like I is banned by ebay rule, when they want to
enforce it.

But still i think most amateur chemists or students doesn't need too much mercury.. just a little bit for some experiments. And mercury switches are
really cheap. Lol

Lucky you... that's a crap ton of mercury for the price!

I go to automotive shops, and thrift stores and such and I buy all and any of their mercury thermostats and or tilt switches for the hood. I used to
have a massive amount gathers from that.
But I long since moved and am rebuilding my stock pile, but same method, I'm up to 4 pounds cumulative, 2 pounds in free form rest still in their
glass prisons.
Need to distill it at some point but waiting on making a cold trap as I'll be doing it under high vacuum.

Here where i live, i can only find pure mercury to sell in flasks with 100g but is 58 dollars with shipping included (Each). Do you find that
expensive?

Yes. But only because I can find people that want to get rid of what their grandparents left in the attic.
Otherwise, it's mostly on you to decide depending on what you have planned: is it worth your money ?
(Now that I think of it, it's only double the price from what I'd pay for pure and ampouled mercury)
