Problem with Zeeman AAS
Hi,
Yesterday i was removing the slit burner from an Hitachi Z6100 Zeeman AAS for cleaning, since it wasn't used since 2017 and therefore loaded with
rust.
In the process of demounting the burner we had to remove the 1 T permanent magnet, and accidentely the two pole pieces snaped together.
Has anybody an idea how to separate the pole pieces?

Brainiac75(YouTube) played with some big magnets, he used custom jigs to put big magnets together safely, maybe using the same jig but in reverse
could work.
The jig is a wooden wedge with a small angle, the hardest part would be starting to insert the wedge between the 2 magnets

Shearing them apart would be the most probable option. You definately are going to need to build a jig for this operation, the big ones exert such
forces that it may very well end in a serious injury if the plan is not well thought out.

Thanks for the advice,
yesterday we tried it with a car jack and it worked!
The magnet was shaped with a hole in the middle where we could fit the car jack.
Im very happy we where able to fix it, since its a very rare instrument.
