Ferric ammonium citrate synth failed

Hi

Twice I have tried to make ferric ammodium citrate following NileRed’s method and both times it has failed and upon mixing with potassium ferricyanide has made Prussian blue pre exposure. The whole experiment except making the ferric chloride was conducted in a shed with blacked out windows (picture). Any idea why it has failed?

EDIT: also is there a way to convert exposed ferric ammonium citrate to unexposed stuf by oxidising? Many with H2O2?

Check you are using ferricyanide and not ferrocyanide.
Check that you are using amonium ferric citrate and not ferrous citrate (IDK if this exists).

Are your aluminium trays reducing either of the above to their ferrous forms? Try the process in plastic.

Cheers,H.
