Pyrex or quartz tube


Hi everyone i have a question about the CO2 cutting laser ( high power , like 300 watts for example ) and the type of glass they use for the long tube . what's the best please ? pyrex or quartz ?

Iam no expert on lasers, so this is pure logic.

Ill assume that the tempertature difference involved in turning on the laser is huge.

If you want to abuse glass in such fashion the most logical step would be to use a material that likes this.
Since quartz is more (read: a lot) tolerant to thermo shocks this would make a sensible choice.
Than again quartz is expensive stuff.

Pyrex is somewhat capable of handling sudden temperature differences.
Still it isnt hard to crack it.
It is a lot cheaper.

Can you or anyone shed some light (hehe) on this ??
