Looking for 1-3gr of platinum for a reasonable price
I have been looking for platinum for a while to make some chloroplatinic acid however the prices I am finding are often anywhere from 80-150% over
spot. I then figured I would find some scrap platinum jewelry on eBay however I keep running into the same issue. I have some Pt on carbon and Pt on
asbestos but I have no interest in refining good catalyst. As such I figured I would ask if anyone has some 90%-99%+ Pt that they could part with at a
reasonable price. Like I said 1-2-3gr. Would be great.
My last ditch effort for Pt will be catalytic converter metal recovery which I would rather avoid.

Only Pt sample I have is a small wire in an ampoule (considering I just looked up the spot price, that's about to change), but I found 5g Pamp Suisse
bars for only 117% spot if you're looking for a backup:

Would you want to split a 5g bar that is 99.9 or 99.99%? I've seen some dealers sell this.
If 5g isn't available I know they have 10g, so maybe there are other people who are
interested. I have a mg scale (It weighs down to 1mg) so I can split it up really well.
I figured I can use a pair of heavy duty wire cutters and cut it in half or quarters or thirds. I'll check out prices and if anyone else is
interested speak up!

Yes I would split 5gr. If we can get it at a resonable price how would it work though? I am speaking of payment of course.

Platinum price will depend on Tesla and spaceX (basically on elon musk)
platinum price is falling because increase recycling and due to reduced industrial demand. Catalytic converter use (45%) for jewelry (34%), chemical
production (Perchlorate production, nitric acid) and petroleum refining (9.2%), for electrical applications such as hard disk drives (2.7%) of world
production.
Perchlorate production will decrease since space x made reusable liquid-propellant rocket engines space cost less so more cheaper method is used (so
no more solid rocket booster) .ironically this increases nitric acid production .since perchlorate can also make using PbO2 platinum demand can go up
.
there is competition between fuel cell cars and electric ones ,only fuel cell one use platinum .so much so if all cars we drive used flue cells entire
wold reserves are not even closed to fill the demand!
the best part is if all go electric vehicles more than 50% of current production will have no use that leads to platinum price falling. mainly
because most platinum is extraction by-product from nickel and copper mining and processing so constant supply ,no demand means price go down.
don't get me started on asteroid mining. 'down the price you go.

If you're in Australia I can get precious metals in 1g increments if anyone is interested plz let me know and maybe we can work something out.also as
far as hard drives having a platinum coating I had NUMEROUS multiple ones tested by xrf and they all showed nothing but nickel.

Only some models used in laptops contain ~1 mg Pt per HDD platter. IRRC it will take ~900 HDD platters to recover a gram of Platinum.

I get that that's a small enough amount to be missed by pretty much anyone but shouldn't something as sensitive as an xrf that can tell the exact
elemental percentage of a lump of steel but I suppose it has to have a limit to it's sensitivity somewhere and 1mg per platter spread over all that
surface area explains it.there not really worth collecting at all.
