I guess your glass lathe has to very accurately turn the head chuck and tail chuck together. Is that done with very accurate gears or anti backlash gears or how is it done?

I'm actually not sure about the mechanism that makes that work. I'll ask a machinist next time I'm around one. Would be curious to find that out as well.

Hello, there! Did you go to Salem?
I do not have an insta or facebook for the business at the moment. Might get a small presence on those eventually.

You have any friends in NC? There is actually a place near here, but just as was going to visit, Covid started so I still have not stopped by there yet. I would love to find a small, new place, as I have lots of parts and pieces (oodles of stopcocks and joints) that I would love to trade for minor work and repairs, but established places don't want to do that. But best of luck in your work.

Hey, Dr. Bob. I do not know any glassblowers over there.
Here is a link to the directory listing for the southwest section of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society. You may be able to find someone not to far from there.
Other than that, I'm more than happy to do some repairs for ya at a discount in exchange for some things.
(Could really use some 14mm Inner joints, kevlar rope, or ring stand clamps)
Shoot me a message or an email at info@clearhorizonsglass.com

Bumping this thread to say that I had Clear Horizons do a small glassware project for me (borosilicate sheathes for thermocouple probes) and I'm very happy with the results. Communication was fast, turnaround on the job was quick, and everything was packed and shipped securely. If you need any sort of glassblowing send them an email, they're good to do business with.

Clear_horizons_glass,
I submitted a request via the web form.
Do you do work in silica or just borosilicate?

Torch talk, and several others. I'm just an amateur small time scientific glass 'shaper' for the most part. But I did post my computer fan, voltage controlled forced air + propane lampworking torch and people liked it, and sent me to another group that i'm waiting to be approved to get in to.

  • I am an IT Systems guy by trade though. Looks like you may have resolved this, but FYI, Google Domains charges $5 a year for a domain name, optional $5/month for the full GSuite package, including a free website on their domain, but all I did was add cname DNS record to my www.domain.com and it redirects smoothly, and basically i get everything that godaddy would charge $100 a month for, for like $5!

    there should always be a
    c record:
    www@ -> @
    that will fix that issue.

I offer all charitable/small/involved in things I like small business 2 free hours of support. Feel free to reach out.

    Dr. Bob:
I have friends in a few parts of NC. Also that's where the best wholesale glass stalk website operates out of.
I'll ask, what's the most difficult repair by your best guess out of the repairs you need?

I have boxes of various broken glassware, from star cracked rbfs to filter flasks with broken vacuum inlets, to addition funnels with broken equil. tubes. Also, a fair number of just stuck joints and various pieces. I am trying to sort out some to send to Clear Horizons to try out. If you know people in NC that might be interested in some work, I would be interested, there used to be many glass places around here, but most I knew are gone now, except Prism. I would really like to trade some items for repairs, but am willing to pay cash to fix high value things.
