Let me reiterate--this stuff will steal your breath.
Yes, my lab is in my house. Yes, I mess with NO2 generating things. That being said, I:
a) "grease" my joints with H2SO4 (<<Lazy with bbcode)
b) clamp everything well to my frame, making sure that all joints are tight and sealed
c) have the heating mantle on a labjack so i can lower it quickly
d) vent the apparatus OUTSIDE.
e) use a equalizing dropping funnel to add my H2SO4 to the nitrates
f) make sure I HAVE A CLEAR PATH OUT THE DOOR if something should go south
And remember, NITRILE gloves are worse than useless around nitric acid.

I am aware. That is why I am using a fan even when I am outdoors now. It worked before. I just finished my first batch of hydrazine sulfate and it
worked also quite well. I should have done all neutralization on my balcony as well.
