Not really. We've gone from "Electron microscope sees single hydrogen atoms", which was ancient history when I was in college, to "Atomic-resolution imaging as a mechanistic tool for studying single-site heterogeneous catalysis" in less than twenty years. A surprisingly short (or long, depending on your point of view) time.
