What is your rare chemical? I may be able to find an alternate site for it.

If it's sumatriptan you're interested in, it's available on prescription for relief of migraine . . .
I noticed (diethyl) was changed to dimethyl!

You might be able to open up THF or a similar compound with dimethylamine, then oxidize the alcohol and make the acetal. Or perhaps take the 1,
4-dihydroxy-tetrahydrofuran, and react with dimethylamine and then ethanol. This is not going to be an easy thing to make or stable to keep. The
amine might react with the acetal (which is a masked aldehyde) to form the imine, or do rdox chemistry with itself. If you have a Merck index, chck
in it for a synthesis reference.

There have got to be more accessible ways to synthesis tryptamines... seriously?!
it's all about chemistry.

Where in the world do you see a tryptamine in what this fellow is asking about?
Knowledge is useless to useless people...
"I see a lot of patterns in our behavior as a nation that parallel a lot of other historical processes. The fall of Rome, the fall of Germany — the
fall of the ruling country, the people who think they can do whatever they want without anybody else's consent. I've seen this story
before."~Maynard James Keenan

He's probably seen this: http://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/dmten.html
But you are right. The habit of some people to frantically relate *everything* to drugs is disturbing. Drugs cause psychosis - in people not taking
them.

The logical way is to make the N,N-dimethylaminobutanal and then convert that in to the dimethyl acetal.
The latter is the most sensitive group so putting it in last is the best decision.

As for buying it...
I tried buying some n-butylferrocene a few years ago. Right off they wanted proof that I was a business. When I made the serious amateur pitch they
wanted full lab info, whether I had a fume hood, and waste systems, etc.
It wasn't worth the hassle so I don't know if I could've satisfied them had I tried. My guess is no. Post 9/11 the major companies just don't see the
risk/reward being in their favor.
Reading the threads here made me think of one thing. Given the sucking economy lots of small businesses are unfortunately being wiped out. Maybe one
could check out their city to find some that are having problems. They may well accept a cash infusion for some chemicals and/or supplies that they no
longer need.
Best of luck.

It's one of the largest chem suppliers in the world
I'd think most people not involved with a business would've figured out you need a company letterhead, fax #, and answers to the '20 questions' they
throw at you.
it's common sense: if you're a hobby chemist, avoid the large chem suppliers.
