Piss me off!

Someone is screwing round, taking the identities of new members and posting a distinct pattern of crap designed to irritate and annoy the members who wish to help the newbies.

Squidlips
Fernando Baez
FEBA

maybe others.

the posting style is simple, they post curt and short demands that show at least a little knowledge of chemistry.

Very little time is put into each post.

The demands continue until someone gets annoyed; the identity changes, the demands continue.

Maybe you might not wish to waste your time, I've wasted longer than I care to admit on responses to trash posts,

unfortunate to see this crap because this is such a sweet forum, it has kept me curious about science during times of general malaise.

Um... Welcome to the Internet. I doubt a single person is behind these posts.

Unfortunately, the bigger the forum gets, the more it is going to be targeted by people who can't be bothered to use a search engine, or do their own homework.

Perhaps the forum should have a policy of making new members write a paragraph about their interest in chemistry, before granting them posting privileges. This would provide no obstacle to people with a genuine interest in the subject, but would deter timewasters.

Now I can see why the mushroom people made you king!

Yeah, but there really wouldn't be many of them, we only get 1 or 2 new members a day and how much do most of us read at this web site? We could deal with it, however I really don't think we have a problem of any scale to warrrnat such actions. It would probably increase the % of members that post but it really would be a hassle for anyone wanting to join and here we want to encourage new members to the chemistry community and even the slightest barrier might detur them.

What about taming your impetus to answer the shit?

No answer, no problem - good vulture will sooner or later come around and lock and pick those guts up and carry them to his "detritus" feeding place where they belong.

The problem arises actually in the moment somebody makes a THREAD out of such a single post - by posting.

You can be sure - nothing annoys idiots more than nobody taking notice of them.

just my 2.098.001 ?

I told you before, don't reply to these guys, just report.

New sciencemadness motto:

Don't reply to lamers, REPORT. And let Vulture worry about it.

EDIT: Look at my user title!

Problem is arising out of the general good nature of the membership, it must have been noticed that the members pretty much trip over each other in a sincere desire to help.

But yah, I've thought about the paragraph about yourself requirement, and It seems to be a little much, sort of against the spirit of a free and easy membership.

Perhaps tolerating silly crap like this is the price of accessibility.

I don't think anything could deter a real madscientist. I have seen the members post the details of their adventures risking life and limb and using every availible penny in the pursuit of amateur science.

dumb posts

Most of these misguided posts are innocent and we wouldn't want to discourage the novices.

Levity is an important part of this forum and some of these posts certainly provide it. When I hear vulture lift off his craggy nest I know there will be a total lack of mercy.
