entropy51 memorial
Many of you remember forum member entropy51. His last post was over a year ago. The last I spoke with him he was dying of cancer.
He was a medical doctor by vocation and a home chemist by avocation. For many years before his death he was planning the lab he would enjoy upon
reaching retirement. He had a fine collection of glassware and instruments. He offered to give it all to me, but I had no place to put it. I miss
him.

He was my number one fan and I didn't even notice he was so gone really...shit...I still have his PM's...shit
He was a bit harsh at times towards the end in some of his posts I thought, well now maybe I don't know everything.
I hope all the other once-familiar names aren't also really gone.

The forum is more then 10 year old and it will start to be frequent that people will go.

Sad to hear that he died of cancer. I certainly remember his posts. He was a knowledgeable person and was willing to share his ideas with others.

I had some public disagreements with him and some intense but not disagreeable conversations with him in private. He was not afraid of death. It was
not his first encounter with cancer. He had outlived pets and wives. He truly enjoyed exploring his little corner of chemical space, and took comfort
from it in his last months. I miss him.

I think that I have his first name in one of my U2U's, maybe even his last name. I believe he lived in the Washington DC area. I'll look back at my
U2U's.
I remember that he had several successful careers: forrester, engineer, and medical doctor. He had a lot of hands-on chemical synthesis experience
when he was an engineer.
Edit: His name was Robert, but that's all I have. He was cheerful right up to the end.

His passing is indeed tragic, and I will certainly miss reading his knowledgeable posts, but is it fair to give one member a thread when he dies or
moves on, but not another? I can think of others who have not posted for some time, and fear the worst for, too.

I don't see how it's not fair. Anyone could post a thread about any member that has passed along. That seems entirely fair, obviously Magpie cared
enough to actually do something. Like I mentioned above, plenty of people pass through the revolving doors at Sciencemadness, I just usually don't
assume they have died.

I'll miss his contributions. He helped me to make cyanide salts, and cyanate salts, and gave me a storage problem, so i'll always have fond memories

Ima miss that trolling bustard as well. We spoke last march and he was saying we would have a chance to speak again although his cancer was winning
but I have not really been around to much lately and had not really noticed his absence.
I have his location somewhere in my U2Us but I will look in the morning as I have to wade through the masses. I believed it to be somewhere in the
Virgina area but I could easily be mistaken.

I don't really remember his online persona nor his opinions on general matters, but I do remember his nickname and noticed an absence. I remember he
was helpful regarding chemistry issues, but that's all I can say about him.

I consider Robert a good friend of mine We had exchanged so many U2Us that I had forgotten about half of them (I breifly refreshed my memory and
couldn't help but laugh out loud at some of our conversations). He was always pleasant and knowledgable. I knew of his illness and the comfort that
chemistry provided to him. He bought all the glassware and equipment he thought he could never have otherwise afford, and he was certainly at peace
with life despite his grim prognosis.
Regards an obituary, I do not know his surname. I know that he recently bought a house with a nice finished basement he thought suitable for a fine
lab. Where this was I have no idea. Perhaps a moderator or admin could look back at his IP address to provide some detail as to where he was roughly
located.
I too miss him dearly. Unfortunately we exchanged words little after I heard of his bad news. I was busy with study, and he was busy fighting cancer.
I wish I had the opportunity to engage in conversation with him once again before he passed. I wish I had a chance to say goodbye.
On a related note, I fear Sauron has also passed. He was another dear friend. Last I heard from him he was going blind and suffering health problems
(diabetes is one I recall). It might be that he's been unable to use a computer, but its been a while now and I'm sure I would have heard something by
now if he was still around. I was unable to find an obituary for him either, though I'm not exactly versed in searching for such things.

I, too, miss Sauron. He could be irascible but surely had a lot of 60's era hands-on chemistry experience. I think some of his arguments with Len1
are among the best on this forum. Following their arguments was like having a ringside seat at "Battle of the Titans."
We know he lived in Bangkok, Thailand. At one time I knew his full name as he had inadvertantly given it out. I'll see if I can find it.
