Baits the question could a siphon work without the siphon. What fluid properties ( viscosity , cohesiveness , etc.) would enable that to work.

Here gravity is the active force. What about magnetism ? Solar prominences show similar behavior

I think studies on magnetic sails for spacecraft have been struggling with some of that.

They are trying to funnel some of the wind down for electrical generation, without having to inject plasma for a target.
