Cleaning Aspirin

Here a idea to cleaning Aspirin Tabletts.

Crush 50 500 mg Aspirin Tabletts with a motar to a fine powder.
Heat 1000 ml concentrated 97-99% ethanol in a beaker dissolve the powder in the ethanol, stirr a few minutes and than the mixture is filtered two times with a very fine filter paper
and than the ethanol is careful boiled out,
stirred with a glass stirring-rot and the slick is stirred until the acetylsalicylic acid are dryed.
Heat the mixture that the acethylsalicylic acid not compose to much.

I don`t know the procedure are correct and what for impurties mixed into the tabletts ?
The acethylsalicylic acid should be useful to prepare picric acid [Picrates].

The tablets you want are the dirt cheap (USP, or BP, if you are in the UK or US)
ones, don't buy dispersible, or buffered aspirin.

Crush the tablets, and extract with cold ethyl alcohol, isopropanol or methanol, then filter through a coffee filter or filter paper, discard the solids left in hte filter, as they are tablet binders, then evaporate the alcohol to give aspirin.

Remember picric acid is toxic, not good to come into skin contact with, and stains EVERYTHING yellow.
