I just tried and was unable to reproduce your problem. Are you using a proxy? Can you try using a different web browser or internet connection.

I'll run system diagnostics and check my security
and firewall and browser settings , reinstall the browser ,
all the usual stuff . Never run into this before and
it doesn't happen on the regular http connection
with a proxy or without , So it's a mystery at this point .
Probably just packet loss from the echelon servers
picking through every bit before passing it on :D

Can others confirm/deny Rosco's problem with downloading attachments while connected through https? I don't get the malfunction, but if others do maybe we can figure out what the common factor is.

I ran all diagnostics and have found no problems .

The problem is only affecting PDF files and not other file types .

Instead of the browser recognizing the PDF file type ,
it pops up a warning box which misdesignates the file
as some sort of Acrobat Active X file type which cannot be
opened . Very wierd .

A possible malicious code warning pops up and the
file type is misdesignated as

file type: Adobe Acrobat Control for ActiveX

Of course it is just a PDF file which should open right up
in another browser window , tiled within Acrobat Reader .

Maybe I need to reinstall Acrobat ?

What browser are you using? Maybe you need to play with your security settings a little.

Can you save the file to your hard drive and then open it regularly with Acrobat?

IE6 is what I'm running and it works fine otherwise .

I reinstalled it anyway , the problem persists .

I reinstalled Acrobat Full Version too , no joy .....

and both the browser and Acrobat work fine in every other way , and this problem appeared recently ....
only using https .

I'll try just turning off the security and firewall
completely and see if its some sort of authenticode
problem .

Nothing seems to be fixing it . I'll try another machine
later .

It is strange because the problem only appears for the
pdf files and only when connected via https . Otherwise ,
everything works fine . Go figure .

I know that IE suffers from many ActiveX security problems. It sounds to me like an overzealous programmer may have put a little too much security into an update or patch.

Try firefox. It doesn't suffer from IE's vulnerabilities so there shouldn't be any overprotective security measures 'protecting' it. That and it's a great browser. :D

Yeah I think the problem is in the browser security ,
since the combination of the pdf file type and the
site authentication protocol being " unconventional "
or perhaps the file being relayed across domains ,
or all three things together adds up to a
" can not open file " or
" site cannot be found " scenario for Internet Explorer ,
which also flags the connection attempt as communication to an " Unknown Zone " :D

It happens even with all security turned off ,
so there is something screwed up with the
file transfer protocols specific for pdf files ......
otherwise jpegs and gif files would also be
affected .....but those file types work fine in
exactly the same scenario otherwise , downloading
without any problem . It may be that the pdf
file type itself has some added security concerning
the ways it may be relayed across domains ?

Possibly part of the problem is the combination
scenario where the page connection in https contains
both secure and non-secure items , and the browser
gets confused about what to do with subsequent
download links from a page that is a mixed bag of
secure and non-secure items . In fact that may be the
whole problem , if the files trying to be fetched are
on a regular http connection , and the browser is
trying to download them via a secure connection
where the files can't be found , it's like the browser
is looking for a non-existing location for the files because
of some redirection or linking error .

update : Found the problem is a known issue ,
but haven't yet tried the fix .

CAUSE
This issue occurs if the server sends a "Cache-control:no-store" header or sends a "Cache-control:no-cache" header.
