Al Powder As A Sensitizer For Nitromethane


In case anyone's interested, US Patent #6960267 teaches the use of stearic acid coated aluminum powder as a sensitizer for nitromethane.

I don't think this will work because the aluminum powder would sink to the bottom of the liquid nitromethane.

The inventor addresses this issue in the patent. Supposedly the mixture will remain homogeneous for several hours (after being shaken), and if need be can be kept that way indefinitely by adding thickeners to the mixture.

If particle size is tiny enough, then brownian move may help keeping the solid suspended in the liquid....
The fact it deals with Aluminium is a help because of its low density...:cool:
