4-methylpropiophenone


When we convert toluene to 4-methylpropiophenone using propionyl chloride by Friedel Craft's reaction, we get up to 10% 2-methylpropiophenone. How can this be avoided, where by I get only 4-methylpropiophenone.

alternative isomers yielded from this is always an occurence, it cannot be avoided unless you protect the 2 position, anyway a 90% correct isomer yeild aint that bad... why worry?
