Synthesis of Pentaerythritol /PE/

Hy all!

I found on the internet this recipe about synthesis of pentaerythrit.

To a mixture of 18.5 of Ca(OH)2 and 75g formaldehyde in 500cc of H2O is slowly added 22g of acetaldehyde. The temperature of the mixture is maintained at 15° during the addition of acetaldehyde and then gradually raised to 45°. The calcium is precipitated with oxalic acid the calcium oxalate removed by filtration and the filtrate evaporate to dryness under reduced pressure. the residue is taken up in 200cc of hot ethanol and the resulting solution allowed to cool the PE wich separates weighs 50g (73.5% of the theoretical amount) and melts at 258 . pure PE melts 260°. "

Is it works?
Thanks for your helps!

You posted this on APC too. This method has worked for years and years. Why would you even question it? I'm sure this same method is also on this forum more than once.
