How is Mg going to displace K? I don't understand this.

This not aqueous chemistry. MgO is a much stabler compound than KOH and H2 is the driving force. Calculate the G value for this.

Indeed, you need to consider all aspects of the reaction. Remember that in Victorian times, sodium and potassium were made by heating the carbonates mixed with carbon or iron to a high temperature.
