Indeed it can ─ if you're prepared to shake vigorously for hours the DCM/acid mix, apparently?

It would seem that this article would be very useful to consult on this:
"Nitric acid in dichloromethane solution. Facile preparation from potassium nitrate and sulfuric acid", Paolo Strazzolini et al, Tetrahedron Letters, Volume 42, Issue 7, 12 February 2001, Pages 1387–1389.

I just went through the references section, looking for "nitric" in the title and nothing showed, up neither have I found this by Googling Sciencemadness for Strazzolini, or in the top hits for DCM/dichloromethane and nitric acid.

Seems like someone would have provided this reference in this past, given the interests on this site. Does anyone have a link?

Yeah you must ask the acces to a forum admin like polverone, probably because posting references in a public space would be illegal

Rapopart’s Rules for critical commentary:

1. Attempt to re-express your target’s position so clearly, vividly and fairly that your target says: “Thanks, I wish I’d thought of putting it that way.”
2. List any points of agreement (especially if they are not matters of general or widespread agreement).
3. Mention anything you have learned from your target.
4. Only then are you permitted to say so much as a word of rebuttal or criticism.

Anatol Rapoport was a Russian-born American mathematical psychologist (1911-2007).
