Making Nitric Acid


Can i heat Pb[NO3]2 to make NO2 and then pass it through Water to make HNO3?

Yes you can but not with any efficiency ─ distilling off H2SO4 is better but lead sulphate is insoluble so your lead nitrate must be dissolved in water before adding the acid!

Lead nitrate would be an unusual choice for that... most people use ammonium, potassium, or sodium nitrate as they are not highly toxic and are generally readily available as fertilizers or food additives.

I would seriously would not be playing with lead compounds in this manner.

KNO3/NaNO3/NH4NO3 are far better materials all around for this, in clean up and disposal of byproducts.
