Color of ammonium chromate
I now have the following chems:
potassium dichromate
potassium chromate
ammonium dichromate
ammonium chromate
The potassium dichromate and ammonium dichromate both have the same color. They are very bright
orange.
The potassium chromate I have is really bright yellow.
I expected the ammonium chromate to have the same color as the potassium chromate, but it is more brown/golden
yellow with darker specks in it.
The texts fairly well reflect the colors of the chems. Is that color, I describe, really the color of ammonium chromate? The stuff I have is labeled
as "LR grade" chemical. It seems to be pure, when I dissolve it. Solutions are nicely clear and orange yellow. On addition of some NaOH, the solution
becomes really bright yellow.
I'm just wondering, I expected the color of ammonium chromate to be the same as the color of potassium chromate. For the dichromates, the colors
indeed are the same.
