Reminded me of a crime in which the perpetrators parked their van housing
a carbon dioxide laser of significant power in the central field of a trotter horse
race track. During a race if a trotter goes into a gallop or breaks its trotting gait
it must pull back and resume again trailing the other horses. The scheme was to
shock selected horses to break their trot with an applied pulse to their rumps.
Doing so the outcome of a long shot entrant was assured on which the authors
of this scheme bet the farm. Although the laser has only existed for forty years,
the more things change the more they stay the same.
