The mention of a bucket makes me thing cleaning products, which leads me to thinking bleach mixed with ammonia, only speculation of course

I thought exactly the same thing. Gas seems most likely and that produced at low temp. Aqueous conditions also seems more probable. That narrows the range considerably.
