Aromatic modification of phenylpiperazine

I have gotten my hands on some n-phenylpiperazine and was searching for procedures on modifying the phenyl ring of the PhP, specialy interested in monohalogenation and nitration of it...

So far i have only come across this document (http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5725838.html) which describes iodination to 4-iodoPhP, but it is using rather unfriendly ICl...

Anyone knows of a better method for synthesis of ICl than that described in Brauer Handbook of preparative inorganic chem? Wikipedia seems to outline a much simpler procedure, but in brauer a very similiar procedure seems to produce ICl3...

Are there any other practiculary interesting reactions that could be done with PhP? Maybe using it in a willgerodt-kindler or birch-like reaction?
