Is anyone familiar with this type of IR spectrophotometer?

What type of IR receiver does it use?

An interesting kit has been supplied with the device - a box called "power supply" for the IR50, the device's IR receiver. A charger?

(an advice to find a manual will not do. Unavailiable :( )

Hi,
this detector is a so called golay cell, a very sensitive and broadband thermal detector. I use this Unicam IR 50 detector for measuring radiation form 24 gHz gunn oszillator over submilimeter from mercury high pressure lamp up to optical frequencies. If You like I will post the connector schema and how to connect to 12V powersupply and oscilloscop

Thanks for information! Does it have a vacuumized cell?

And what's a power supply for, I still doesn't get it (sorry for the dumb question).

And yes, I'd like to look at the connection scheme.

Sorry for the delay,
No, the cell works like a gasthermometer. The absorber and the filling gas is warmed bei the incomming radiation. The increasing pressure of the gas bends a very thin membran. This membran deflects a beam of light. The deflections is detected by a fotodiode and generate the output signal. So the spectral response of the golay cell depends only on the spectral properties of the absorbermaterialwhich can be made very broadband. You only need a 12V ( 50mA)powersupply. At the blue connector of the cell are 4 wires, red, brown, black and screened.
red 12V
brown 12V over 330Ohm resistor (supply for the light generating LED)
black ground
screen gound

So, what was it all about : the evice have instantly lost sensitivity, and does not react even to manual beam closure. My first version was, that if the receiver was vacuumized, it could have just cracked and gained an atmospheric pressure level (just like it was usual with Vth-10, the vacuum thermoelements which were used in ancient Zeiss UR-10 spectrometers) - now I see that it's not so...


Will try to find out...

Any ideas?

Hi,
I think first of all, You should look if the LED for the detection circuit ist still okay. Perhaps You can have a look with a infrared sensible camera, like a webcam. The wavelength should be around 900 nm where many digital cameras are still sensible. I think this LED can be replace. If on the other hand this very thinn and fagile membran is brooken I'm afraid there's nothing to repair
