stainless steel still and calcium acetate


Just wondering if calcium acetate will react with stainless steel in any way i know I should yse glasswear fir distillation but I only have a stainless condencer and pot I know acetone isnt reactive but im kinda uninformed on the subject of molten calcium acetate

Calcium acetate probably not, but the calcium carbonate that will be formed can attack glass at high temperatures. I'm not sure how serious of a problem it is, but destroying glassware while distilling calcium acetate is common.

Oh and one run didn't seem to damage the paint can I used for a boiling flask. I didn't manage to isolate any acetone last time I tried a destructive distillation of calcium salts, but I think that may be because the acetone-sodium bisulfite adduct is more soluble than I expected.

So the cromium compounds in the stainless steel wint be disolved ... Ive gets there vert toxic thats why im so curious
