Air compressor powered vacuum pump
I was looking to one of these possibly for purchase to use mostly for filtration. It supposedly pulls a decent vacuum of 28 inches of mercury in two
mins. The problem I guess is that you need an air compressor to run it. I was just wondering if anybody has one of these or has used one and their
experience with it.

That, is a fairly large volume of air. Gonna need a pretty good compressor.

I use one of those at work for vacuum filtration and it's perfect, but we have compressed air lines in the lab, presumably from some giant centralized
air compressor. I don't know, I open the valve and air comes out. Guess I'm spoiled. 
So, I can vouch for the device, I just can't guarantee that it will work very well using a household air compressor.

It will work just fine with a domestic compressor, but they use a lot of air, so the compressor will be running a lot (=noise). More efficient just to
use a mechanical vacuum pump and ditch the venturi.

I agree with the above, it will require massive amounts of air, so unless you have a 20-30+ gallon compressor already it is useless. And once the air
is off, the vacuum fails. You can find cheap vacuum pumps if you look around, even a simple aspirator works as well, and can run on tap water or a
simple pump, much more efficient than an air venturi in my experience.

You could just remove the air filter on your compressor and attach an appropriate sized barb directly to the intake. I ran a setup like that, with a
dry ice/acetone cold trap, as my first vacuum apparatus for about 6 months. Only reason I stopped is due to the local BOC gas closing down.

You can get an HVAC vacuum pump at Harbor Freight for about $100 USD. I've been using one for the last seven years. They are bullet proof. I use it
frequently, keep the oil changed every couple of months.
This could be used to pull a vacuum on a fairly large system. Much cheaper than an expensive lab quality vacuum pump.
