Zirconium gel?

So, while experimenting with zirconium oxynitrate ZrO(NO3)2 solution, I thought it would be possible to get electrochemically zirconium by dumping some magnesium in. The magnesium began to produce some sort of gas (hydrogen?) and soon some thick white gel has formed. The magnesium was consumed. What could this compund be ? Maybe a complex ?

recently i made some magnesium sulphate with magnesium pencil sharpeners and sulphuric acid drain cleaner. i wanted the acid to react completely so i added lots of magnesium powder (to speed up the reaction), i saw lots of fizzing so i tought it was reacting with the acid, but at the end the solution was jelly and impossible to filter. the magnesium fully reacted with any remaining acid and then started reacting with water to form hydrogen gas and magnesium hydroxide. probaably you made magnesium hydroxide in colloid form

You probably made a zirconium hydroxide colloid, rather than a magnesium hydroxide one.
