There is a widspread myth that TATP detonates in an entropic explosion releasing very little heat and producing 400 l of ozone and acetone gas per kg.
This has been started by a borderline academic mystification by Dubnkinova et al. in 2004.
This has been revised by some of the same authors in a 2005 molecular dynamics study that finds that the oxygen/ozone/acetone fragments produced
survive only for less than 180 ps and that TATP is indeed a fundamentally normal explosive, reaching 80 kbar and 2250 K at crystal density, producing
oxidation products and 2.8 MJ/kg.
