Picric acid with aqua regia?

Could picric acid be made using aqua regia or something else besides sulfuric acid?

No, aqua regia oxidizes the crap out of the substrate, or any other organic

Edit; stick with the protocols for this one

IIRC, aqua regia will oxidize/chlorinate aromatics more than nitrate due to relative absence of NO2+ (without sulfuric) compared to the generation of nascent chlorine from nitrosylchloride.... Many aromatics can be oxidized/chlorinated all the way to chloranil using aqua regia, there should be a couple of threads on that already. Aqua regia could also possibly result in some chloropicrin formation which is pretty toxic and a lacrimator, so definitely don't inhale any fumes from such a reaction!
