can someone dumb this down a little
alkaloids are isolated from thr material in high yields and purity by a process including extracting with a toluene/ethanol solvent mixture to
obtain a primary extract(i get that). The primary extract can be further subjected to two steps of liquid-liquid extraction to purify the alkaloids
resulting in a purified toluene extract( liquid/liquid?). The toluene extract can be further partially evaporated and a crystalline product obtained
by crystallization from the toluene or a mixture of toluene and an aliphatic hydrocarbon (this is what i dont get).

why is everything on the Internet about mescaline and ergot when it comes to alkaloids??
anyway there is a large scale process that i was wondering about shown here

it is for purifying mescaline.. could i adapt that process for other alkaloids on a smaller scale??

The understanding you seek requires an appreciation of acid and base chemistry. Also polar versus non-polar compounds .. dipoles ... ionic versus
covalent bonds ... it's not a simple subject but is often presented as such by descriptions in "cookbook" procedures.
If this is a way for you to start learning chemistry great! If you're trying to get information on how to extract drugs there are better places to
go.
You remind me a little of me when I came on this forum. All this knowledge and talent made me a bit manic. I suggest reading through the various
threads using the search engine and posting less frequently until you have something specific to share as in an experiment you're doing.

Perhaps this sort of thing should be in beginnings or not at all. I just don't know what to say that might not be offensive.

The time has come to speak out. I detect the following in posts from Slmz:
(1) Spamming
(2) Excessive interest in drug related topics, e.g. Red Phosporus, alkaloids etc. Phentermine hydrochloride; the latter "is related chemically and
pharmacologically to the amphetamines. Amphetamines and related stimulant drugs have been extensively abused" (Rxlist)
(3) Little or zero interesting chemistry. either intelligent questions or interesting facts.
Has not the time come to exert anti-spamming and detritus controls? I expect to hear how kewl 'shrooms are next...

Slimz, please read some of the references that people have been showing you -- especially the *books*. There's a lot of great material on the Web, but
little of it is as concentrated and well-organized a source of knowledge as a good book. Fortunately, the forum library combines the best of both
worlds by providing copies of good books in electronic form. I know you have many questions but I think you should hold back on asking them until
you've done some background reading. It's frustrating responding to queries from someone who hasn't read the freely available textbooks covering the
areas of interest.

Im going thru the PDF textbook provided above. Out of all the books i've seen so far, it seems the most geared tward teaching. The other books will be
good when i get to that level, but they are more geared tward information instead of knowledge.
