36 Bè nitric


I got a 5liter bottle of 36Bè nitric acid, should be around 53%, is that useful as it or i have to biol a little to reach 68%?

It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you're just making nitrate salts it should be fine. If you want to nitrate stuff, I'd say get the concentration up to at least 68%. If you wanted to nitrate at that low of concentration, I suppose you could add extra Sulfuric though. Theoretically that would remove some of the excess water.

To tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure on how to concentrate HNO<sub>3</sub> from a lower concentration for sure. Boiling will most likely work though. The azeotrope boils at 122 degrees, so it should concentrate by removing water until that point.

yep i know, the azeotropo is at 68%, i am just 15% away from that, i can boil, or add more sulfuric..i think will add more sulfuric, since boiling destroys lot of HNO3 too..
