A primary alcohol is an alcohol which has the hydroxyl group connected to a primary carbon atom.
Examples of primary alcohols include: methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol and pentanol.
Properties
Primary alcohols can be oxidized to aldehydes or carboxylic acids.
