A test tube holder is a piece of lab equipment used to hold test tubes, usually when the tube is hot or being heated.

General

Test tube holders come in two main forms:

  • A wooden type, which has the form of large clothespin-like clamps
  • A metal type, similar in construction to some models of grill tongs

Availability

Test tube holders can be bought from lab suppliers or online.

DIY test tube holder

You can make a simple test tube holder by wrapping some cloth around some food tongs. Or just make one from wood.

You can also use large wooden clothespin, though if your test tube is large, you will have to cut the groove inside the clothespin.
