Hello all!
I've recently obtained some glutamic acid and iodoform and I'm not too sure what to do with them. Any suggestions? I'm a home chemist, so I don't have
any fancy reagents like LAH :p
One thing I'm thinking of is substituting the amine group in glutamic acid with a hydroxy group in a diazotisation reaction followed by its
spontaneous decomposition in solution. Is it feasible? If so, how should I extract it? As for what I can do with the 2-hydroxyglutaric acid... I'm not
sure, maybe dehydration to form pent-2-enedioic acid?
Another idea I've seen floating around in this forum was decarboxylation of the glutamic acid to form GABA, but I don't have the required NBS and
stuff like that :p
As for iodoform, as far as I know, it's a rather stable and boring compound. Do you guys have ideas for any interesting reactions I can do with it?
