Dr.Bob - 25-2-2023 at 17:37

He had told me some info privately. I am working on a good deal for him, but have limited solid reagent bottles left. Still have a few narrow mouth bottles left in a few sizes.

If anyone else is interested in scratch and dent glasseware, I do have lots of damaged filter flasks with broken vacuum inlets (or erlenmeyers with a hold in the top), and some other odd pieces. I have some really old grad cylinders, some without graduations (either never had them or really work off, could be fixed with a sharpie I think), and a few other odds and ends.

Here is a photo for someone who asked about Snyder columns.

I have recently found a few older editions of the Merck Index, the bible of pharmacologists and medicinal chemists. Along with the previous books I posted before, I still have a fair number of science books available, so if anyone if looking for actual science books (yes, bound paper), please let me know, as I am trying to clean up more space of older books, and pass them on to younger scientists. All i would ask is postage at media rate, or that you come get some if you come through NC, or I can try to get them to you.

foxofax474 - 28-5-2023 at 11:03

Hey @Dr.Bob, seeing as this thread was started so long ago lol, do you have any undamaged beakers, (1 or 3 neck) round bottom flasks left, or perhaps even distillation setups like the one you mentioned earlier in the thread still available?

Would love to buy some (am in northeast US) if you still do :)

Dr.Bob - 28-5-2023 at 16:52

I have a few beakers left, very few 24/40 rbfs, a good number of various 14/20 rbfs, plus one 14/20 kit left, and many pieces of 24/40 kit (I could make a kit except I have few rbfs to go with it.). The best thing is to send me a u2u or email me at craigslistinnc@gmail.com and you can give me more details on what sizes and such you are looking for. I have a shrinking list of things left, but I'm happy to do what I can.

I also have a mix of 19/22 kit, which is not really a whole kit as much as just a large mix of 19/22 stuff, might be ideal for someone who already have some 19/22 kit already and wants more. I also still have some 29/42 kit left, but it is mostly 3 necked rbfs and most of what you would need for a distillation setup.

Hello, I'm selling an empty co2 tank. It's good for up to 450ml of co2 and can be used for other gasses like nitrogen or argon.
Here are some images
I'm not very sure on what a good price would be so I'm going to start off at $75. DM to purchase.
Thanks :)

Raid - 18-6-2023 at 11:57

Also, is anyone selling 24/40 addition funnels and/or lab stands?

Dr.Bob - 19-6-2023 at 13:06

I have addition funnels in some sizes and joints, I might have a lab stand left or something similar, have lots of 1/2" rod and connectors.

Raid - 19-6-2023 at 13:20

The rods would work, but I would also need something to use as a stand. I have tried using wood in the past but it does not work very well, mostly because of how light the wood is and that it rots if you spill something on it.
Do you have any 24/40 addition funnels? If so I would like to know which sizes you have and I would be willing to buy one or two.
Thanks ;)

Dr.Bob - 19-6-2023 at 16:19

If you go back oine page, there are a bunch of photos of what I had a few months ago, and I have almost all of them still, I think I sold a couple 250 and 500 ml ones. The pricing is in the spreadsheet also fouind on that page (28) and are:

110 Addition Funnel, equilibrated, 24/40, used very good - non-graduated 125 ml 1 $50.00
111 Addition Funnel, equilibrated, 24/40, used very good 250 ml 1 $60.00
112 Addition Funnel, equilibrated, 24/40, used very good 500 ml 2 $65.00
113 Addition Funnel, equilibrated, 24/40, used very good 1000 ml 1 $75.00

http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=15667&...

If you scroll back through a few pages of this thread, you will see a good chunk of what I have left in 24/40 items, and many other bits and pieces.

Raid - 20-6-2023 at 08:09

Okay, Thanks I'll take a look at them.

Raid - 28-6-2023 at 11:16

I'm selling a Coors Buchner Funnel and a 500ml Filtering flask if anyone wants it.
The Buchner funnel is made of porcelain and is 250ml.
The Filtering Flask is Pyrex and heavy walled.

Buchner Funnel: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225629849164

Filtering Flask: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225629841794

Also, feel free to make a reasonable offer for the product you want. I would be happy to knock the price down a bit.

Thank you Dr. Bob, despite the USPS's failed attempt to throw the package onto my front porch, your diligent packaging fouled there evil plot.

This is exactly what ive been looking for, its gonna work great in my setup

dettoo456 - 24-8-2023 at 11:17

This obviously isn’t my equipment and I don’t live anywhere near AU, but there is going to be a massive auction of lab equipment and supplies on Sep 12 in Queensland. The prices would probably be pretty fair too, if anyone is interested.

https://www.ironplanet.com.au/jsp/s/auction.ips?msg=92708&am...

Dr.Bob - 25-8-2023 at 06:26

That's a lot of stuff, maybe J-sum and some of the other other Aussie's can do a group buy of hotplates or other useful things. Clearly a huge place or several business' worth of stuff there.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Dr.Bob, he helped me complete my micro-synthesis glassware set. Luckily we live in the same town, so that made 'shipping' much simpler!

I have a used thermoscientific peristaltic pump in, a pelican case for sale .if interested post reply or u2u I can provide pics

alexwoo10 - 28-11-2023 at 00:14

Does anyone have some 14/20 ground glass stoppers? Currently i'm using an abomination wooden stopper I made on the lathe which is terrible. I try to buy one but even one is so expensive

Dr.Bob - 28-11-2023 at 12:23

I have lots of them. I typically sell all jointed flask stoppers for for $5 each, but can make a deal if you want a few. I have 14/20, 19/22, 24/40, 29/42, and up to 45/50 and maybe larger. It would cost about $5 postage to mail a few with first class mail.

I also have the standard single number type stoppers like for sep funnels, grad cylinders, and volumetric flasks from #8 to #32 for $2-3 each, smaller are cheaper. They are a different taper than flask joint type ones, not sure why, but they are. But they are cheaper, but they are not near are well made, so not good for vaccum work, but not an issue on volumetrics and such.

I also have adapters from and to almost every standard taper joint size. These things and the prices are all hidden within the spreadsheet of glassware I have posted.

alexwoo10 - 28-11-2023 at 23:29

Ok, what would an estimated price be for 4 14/20 stoppers, a thermometer adapter, two 100ml 14/20 3 necker (ideally with necks not at an angle but vertical), a 14/20 gas inlet thing (ideally with the long injecting stem that goes into the flask), and a claisen adapter?

I live in MD if that can help to estimate shipping.

Dr.Bob - 7-12-2023 at 18:53

Just to make things interesting, I am in the market for some #29 stoppers, like what fit onto 1L glass reagent bottles. I have scads of bottles, but am running out of the stoppers for the top. i would be happy to pay something for them, or trade them for other glassware, just need to be a reasonable price. But if you have more stoppers than bottles or just have found some loose, I would be interested in making a deal, as the bottles are not much use without a stopper. I do have lots of 24/40 bottle stoppers, far more than I have bottles, so I am happy to trade or sell them. Just need to figure out how to grow them a little.

Texium - 8-12-2023 at 09:55

I think I can help you out with that! I just need to find them

Dr.Bob - 8-12-2023 at 18:19

If you find them just let me know what you want for them, happy to make a good deal. Thanks.

Dr.Bob - 11-12-2023 at 11:03

I just found anbother small box of hardware, mostly clamp holders, aka bossheads, and related items.

There are a few lots of items that I would be happy to sell as a group, or a few at a time, if no one buys them all.

Fisher castaloy clamp holder bosshead trianglar.jpg - 175kB Fisher cataloy hook type clamp holder connector.jpg - 295kB

First is 12 working and 2 stuck (free bonus in case you can fix them) anglular Castaloy clamp holders, these run about $200 in Ebay new, I would sell the lot of 12 for $60, they run from like new to well used or corroded, but all working, except for the extra 2 stuck ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364592963348

Next I have a set of the simpler Fisher Cataloy Flexframe Hook connectors, which are designed to simply hold 2 1/2" rods tight, can be used for lattice frames or holding clamps, but not as nice as the above ones. There are 17 of these, they run about $5 each on Ebay, I will do all 17 for $50, under $4 each, for the entire set. (I likely have more of these mixed in other lots of hardware if you want more.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/353813567122

kimble round lattice connector.png - 241kB Ohaus lattice connector round.jpg - 23kB

Then I have the round Kimble type 1/2 inch lattice connectors, which are little aluminum balls with allen keys to tightten them, can be installed or taken off while lattice is intact, so very handy, but not really useful for clamps. I have 20 of these for $100, they sell for $20 new, and about $5-8 ea used on Ebay.
https://www.dwk.com/na/kimble-12-lattice-connector

Next are 8 working and 5 non-working Ohaus round lattice connectors. They are very sturdy, but harder to assemble and take off. I would ask $50 for the entire lot. https://www.grainger.com/product/404R21

big clamp 90 degree.jpg - 5kB

And lastly I have some mixed, but similar clamp holders, unbranded, that look like the link below, and are very sturdy clamp holders. I have 12 working ones. They sell new for a lot, about $25, but I want to go with $5 each, so $60 for the lot of 12.
https://www.arborsci.com/products/90-degree-clamp

Lastly, I just found about 6 more large Fisher 3 prong Cataloy clamps, which sell new for almost $100, I will sell them for $15, as they are are all in almost new condition. There are a few VWR ones that are of similar quality as well.

I have many other clamps, rings, and clamp holders also, but these I have a bunch of similar items for people that want a set of matching ones. I also have more broken ones, if anyone wants to try to fix some for cheap.

Dr.Bob - 26-12-2023 at 17:44

A long time ago I spoke to someone who had a microscale setup with mostly 10/18 and 14/10 joints. I found a few pieces of this that I knew I had, but could not find for a while. Mostly a couple of 10/18 condensers and some other odd bits. If you are them or anyone who can really use some 10/18 condensers, please let me know so I can give them to you. I likely have more scattered around of small stuff, so please let me know. I also have a number of Weaton V-bottom vials in a few sizes and styles, plus stir bars and other bits for them, if anyone is interested in them. I would have to sell them for a little bit, but not much.

Dr.Bob - 12-1-2024 at 06:21

I have been asked for an updated list of available glassware, so I just finished editing the list to be as close as possible, given the flux of stuff in and out. I have hidden most of the items with 0 inventory, but sometimes I can find those items or have one that is dirty, damaged, or recently found. But the items shown as in stock I should have available.

Some non-equilibrated addition funnels below. I have 2 x 125 ml ones that are PTFE stopcock. The top is a TS 222 stopper, I can provide one, this is not 24/40 compatible. There is also a graduated 125 ml one, with a 24/40 compatible top. I would ask $30 for any of them.

Also some 24/40 to 14/20 bump bulbs that I photographed for someone else, but figured I would post here before they go to Ebay. $20-25 each.

Also some Kugelrohr bulbs in many sizes and styles, all 14/20, from 5 or 10 ml up to 250, even some long ones for large amounts. They can also be used as Rotovap bump traps, or distillation bump bulbs or small solvent resevoirs for little columns, if you really reach for uses.

Just want to make a note that I will be away for a few days, but will answer all messages once I get back. Thanks for all of the help cleaning out my basement, garage, storage space, etc.

Dr.Bob - 9-2-2024 at 05:14

I am back from my trip, and was asked for my email by someone, it is craigslistinnc @ gmail.com, if you email me there, I will email you back from there and give you my real email. I get spammed on any account I post, so I have to go through a lot of mess. Sorry for the trouble.

Dr.Bob - 14-3-2024 at 12:31

I have some old Fisher drawer organizers left that I would like to sell, or take some offers on. Most are 18 x 19 " in size, and I have about 4 or more types. I attached some photos of similar items. These are an older model, made of polystyrene or such, and are a little brittle from age. But they sell new for $50-60 each, and I want to sell them for $10-20 each plus postage, or less if you buy a few. I just found a box that would hold up to about 6 or so of them, so if anyone is willing to buy a bunch, I can make a deal, and ship them easily. They are ideal for pipettes, small parts, small flasks, beakers, vials, and much more. I have a pile of them and will never use them all, so better to sell a few and have more space to sort other glassware. I am having issues getting the photos to display, see the link below for the Fisher site showing most of these organizers.

Updated the spreadsheet again. It is listed below for uploading.

I keep finding graduated cylinders in smaller sizes, (10 to 100 ml), have a few sets made up of 10, 25, 50, and 100 ml sizes, including new ones for most sizes but 25 ml. I will sell the set of 4 of them for $16 each, or $20 if you want 5, and I can fill in an extra one of whatever extra size I can find. Still have lots of smaller erlenmeyers, volumetrics, filter flasks, and smaller multineck RBFs. Running out of small one necks in 14/20, mostly out of 24/40 rbfs, and still have a few 29/42 ones.

Dr.Bob - 7-4-2024 at 08:08

Here are some photos of a bunch of 29/42 pieces that I have left and was photographing for someone, so I will post them for anyone what is interested in 29/42 glassware. There are many adapters, short paths (with 10/30 therm joints), vacuum adapters, gas inlets, Dean starks, addition funnels, and much more. I have more addition funnels somewhere, up to 2L size. If you should be interested in any of it, please let me know which items and either an offer or I can give you a price. Most things would be the same price as the 24/40 equivalent item.

I also have a number of 3 and 4 necked rbfs in 29/42 with straight and vertical necks of 250 and 500 ml size. i'd ask the same price as the equivalent 24/40 3 neck flaskand . I also have enough stuff to make one more "kit" with a claisen, dist head, condenser, gas inlets, and more.

Here are a couple of condensers I have, might sell one shortly, but I have several of the lower ones, which is a West condenser combined with a curved vacuum adapter, all 24/40 joints, asking $25 for it. The top one is a simple West with a 24/40 bottom joint but a simple joint at the top, like for a rubber stopper, I would only ask $10 for it.

Dr.Bob - 22-4-2024 at 16:16

Someone asked me about HPLC columns. I have a bunch, mostly very old, a few might be new, but most were used and then sealed and stored for years. I am willing to sell them for very little as they are, given that I don't know if they work or not. If anyone is at an acedemic location, I will give most away for the shipping costs. Some are likely quite expensive when new, and I suspect that many of these are usable or fixable with some reconditioning (run water to acetonitrile and back a few times or such).

So I will be posting the columns as I dig them out.

A few more things to post I just found. Not sure what some are, but I will describe. make me an offer if you want to make one.

From the right side: 2 long fritted gas inlets - 24/40 joint on top - 2 gas barbs, tube is about 12" long. - Asking $15

Next two (and the 2 pieces on the far left are what's left of another) are 24/40 joint with upper inlet and top open tube, and a very long (~15") open ended tube going into the flask. No idea what this is for. Asking $15 each plus a free broken one to the first buyer.

Next a Snyder column with the middle floating ball broken. no idea if it will work, nexrly impossible to repair, happy to give to someone who buys anything else and pay shipping.

Lastly, some sort of bubbler thing with 2 24/40 joints anda fritted tube inside. $10 or make me an offer.

Dr.Bob - 4-5-2024 at 11:38

Here is another set of photos of the 19-22 kit I have slowly assembled from bits and pieces. It is nearly a full setup, with a variety of flasks (some all 19/22, some mixed with 14/20 or 24/40 joints), a few distilation heads, a claisen, 4 various condensers (one is a coil and outer jacket combo), a few odd Soxlets that may work with some of the condensers, gas inlets, and many other pieces and various adapters. Plus some adapters to other sizes, septa keck clips, and some stoppers. The one complex distillation head alone would sell for $400 new, but I am asking $150 for the entire collection. Or make me an offer. This is basically every 19/22 item I have found in the last few years all combined into one lot.

I have been told the the long glass items 2 posts back might be from some "cyanide distillation apparatus", used for certain analytical digestions, not quite sure what they are used for exactly. But I found more of them, and will likely post them on Ebay, but I have lots, so if you want to play with one, I will sell cheap. Please don't distill cyanides with them.

I just found a few boxes of bottles, some narrow mouth 1L amber ones, some wide mouth clear bottles, and some medium mouth amber bottles. I'm happy to sell them for $2 each, less in bulk, and would be happy to sell a box full for a good price. I also still have 100 ml clear, amber and plastic coated narrow mouth bottles, and many others. Please let me sell you a bunch and find them a nice home.

Dr.Bob - 11-6-2024 at 14:27

I have another sad piece of news. Another long time collegue of mine has passed away, of an agressive cancer that spread quickly and left him little time to prepare. He had worked with me for a while, then started his own business and ran another small chemical company for almost 30 years. Given the speed of the cancer, he had little time to clean up and close his business, so his wife has now inherited a small lab full of glassware, chemicals, equipment, and who knows what more. I am hoping I can help her to deal with some of it, but not quite sure of the details yet. But there are rotovaps, hotplate/stirplates, much glassware and so much more. So if you might be interested, please let me know, but I won't have a real inventory of what is there for a month or so.

I hope to help his wife get enough in sales to pay for the disposal of some of the waste and old chemicals he had there, which may be harder without knowing what is in each thing. There are also larger things, overs, balances, ventalated weighing boxes, 4 fume hoods, solvent cabinets, shelves, and much, much, more. If anyone in the NC area wants to come haul away some larger things, please let me know. I hope to sort out the glassware within a month or so, then start selling it, there is quite a bit, from small flasks, going up to fairly large rbfs, like 5 and 12L or so. I just want to help his wife clean out the space so she can end the lease within a few months if possible. Not quite sure how that will happen yet.

Dr.Bob - 17-6-2024 at 13:10

I spent a few hours in the lab today, and already have found and packed up a lot. I have several boxes of 24/40 rbfs already, 1, 2, and 3 necks, and will find more, from 100 ml to 5L already, and there are some larger ones in the storage space, going up to 22L I think. Those will take a little while to sort out. Lots of larger neck flasks,

There is also a wealth of other random stuff everywhere, most of which needs cleaning or sorting. Just let me know if you are looking for anything and I will look for you, I am trying to take photos of things to post. I also packed a large box each of rbfs (3), erlenmeyers, media bottles, glass frit funnels, and filter flasks, all from small to large.

If you want a rotovap, balance, hood, etc, feel free to come make an offer on them and haul them away. I will eventually pack up the rotovaps and clean, test and assemble them. There are also lab benches, cabinets, drawer units, and so much more. If anyone knows someone setting up a lab, running a small business, or such, please send them to me, here or via craiglistinnc (a) gmail.com. I have a better email, but don't post it here due to spam issues.

Again, if you are in the market for larger rbfs, please let me know.

Dr.Bob - 24-6-2024 at 16:28

I have more things to prelist, working on updating the spreadsheet.

I have many media bottles, including 100, 250, 500, a few 1000 ml, 2000 ml, and even a couple 5000 ml media bottles.

i am finding lots of 24/40 rbfs, so I will be able to make a few 24/40 kits soon, they would have a 50, 100, 250, 500, and 1000 ml rbf, a condenser, dist head, currved vacuum adapter, claisen adapter, and much more. I also have some 19/22 pear flacks (50 and 100 ml), and lots of 100 and 250 ml 14/20 pears and several 500 ml 14/20 rbfs. I also have found some 2 and 5L 24/40 single necks, with many more various large flasks that I am still sorting through. I also have found a large amount of bulk silica gel, happy to package it up in 1 lb or 1 kg. containers, would only ask a few $ per lb, which is a bargain.

I have already had a couple local scimad people come by and get some things, there were 2 complete working rotovaps, one is already claimed, the other may be soon, but there are several more that I have not yet checked. There are also many precious metal compounds, salts, and catalysts, if you are looking for any, please let me know. Lots of Pd/C, PtO and PtOH, Pt ands Pd black, and some rhodium compounds. I would be happy to sell them for their metal value alone. Even PPh3PdCl2DCM, Pdferrocenebisphosphine, and more. I am happy to make great deals for any graduate students or professors as well.

Lots more to come, if you are looking for any specific chemicals (that are shippable) let me know, I have lots of amino acids and derivitives, amines, acids, and more.

Dr.Bob - 25-6-2024 at 16:19

Found a very good 2L sep funnel, with PTFE stopcock and stopper, might have a minor chip on the drip tube, but otherwise very good to nearly new, plus another 2 and 4L sep funnel that I am trying to clean now, not sure of the exact condition until I can clean them.

Keep finding more media bottles, have scads, please buy some. :-)

Have found more 24/40 rbfs, trying to put together some kits now.

More 29/42 rbfs, a few 1 and 2L ones, plus others.

I have several nice 14/20 dewar condensers, I'll try to get some photos once I get caught up some.

I'll try to get more photos soon, but just need to clean up everything before trying to get a photo, and that is taking a while. But making progress on it.

A few local Sci Mad people have stopped by to help clean up and buy stuff, that has been a big help, they have bought some solvents and chemicals that I can't easily ship, plus bigger items and more. They have helped me sort through much stuff, and I can not thank them enough. Might have a few more come by over the next month. Have cleaned out (and sold) some flammable cabinets, have lots of wall cabinets, drawers, bench tops, hoods, ovens, pumps, and more.

Dr.Bob - 27-6-2024 at 17:46

I am making great progress on the lab cleanup, thankfully. Most of the bad chemicals are now dealt with, but I have the more stable ones stored safely, and will try to sell the ones that are safe to ship. But I am cleaning the glassware as fast as I can, but it may take weeks to get it all done. I have several boxes of media bottles now ready to sell, I have dozens of new 100 ml amber Quorpak bottles, and many other containers. If people want an assortment of bottles, I can do deals for med or large flat rate boxes of any mix of bottles.

I have also found lots of Ace pressure tubes of all sizes and shapes; glass stir shafts, bearings and paddles; 14/20 short path heads; bubblers, and so much more. I will be slow to have things ready to ship, as much needs washing, but if you are interested in certain items, glassware, equipment, or chemicals, let me know as soon as you can, and I can try to save things for you. The first people to order things will get the first choice of thengs and the best glassware.

And thanks again to the people who have helped me cleaning the lab, as well as few others who have helped me.

Dr.Bob - 9-7-2024 at 19:11

Found some cases of brand new chemicals, here are a few. The celite is a huge bottle, 1 Kg, the sodium carbonate and sodium potassium tartrate (Rochelle's Salt) are each 500 g. I would ask $20 each plus the shipping, easiest to combine a few things glass and chemicals into one package if possible.

Also, here are some of the Parr bottles, 500 ml, for hydrogenation apparatus, which was asked about recently.

So far I have one 5L media bottle left, a few 2L media bottles left, about 10 1L ones left, a dozen or so 500 ml ones, 25 or more 250 ml ones, and about a dozen 100 ml ones. Also have lots of amber and clear 100 ml narrow mouth qorpak bottles, some medium width 250 ml amber qorpak bottles, and so much more.

Putting together some 24/40 kits, it may take a while to get them all complete, but trying. Grad cylinders up to 1000 ml, volumetrics, filter flasks, a few new 600 ml beakers (Aldrich brand), and so much more. I have enough amino acid derivitives to synthesize an entire persons protein content... Lots of Fmoc amino acdis, including non-natural ones. But we are making great progress in cleaning out the lab, and getting it ready to rent to another small company.

Dr.Bob - 15-7-2024 at 18:51

Someone asked me about UV lamps, so I gathered them all up and took some photos. I have tested them all, and they all work. The one wavelength 345 nm (UVL-21) ones I would ask $40 for, the single wavelength 254 (UVG-11) I would ask $50 for, and the duel wavelength (UVGl-25) I would ask $60 for.

Thanks to several SciMad people for help in cleaning out the latest chemistry business to shut down. We have removed 2 hoods and their benches, lots of chemicals, glassware, and equipment. This has also produced over $3000 for the widow to help her pay for things. We may have even found someone to take over the lease, but not sure yet. I am still sorting and cleaning the glassware, but will continue posting as I get things in ready to ship condition. But I have found more various bottles, rotovap parts, smaller heating mantles, flasks, and so much more.

For chemicals, I do have a lot (100's) of substituted phenols, carboxylic acids (both benzoic and aliphatic) and a few inorganics that I might be able to ship small bottles of. So if you are looking for any of those, please let me know which ones, and I likely have them. Sadly, there are many nice chemicals that are hard to ship or large amounts, so shipping would be tough, but several local people have gotten a variety of those so far. I will try to update my list soon with many of the new finds, but it will take a while to list all of it.

Dr.Bob - 24-7-2024 at 10:50

Also, if anyone, especially in academics, is interested, there are a lot of boronic acids, mostly small containers, most of which are solids and easily shipped. I have also found a few 1-5 g bottles of palladium acetate, palladium chloride, platinum oxide (various types and batches), a variety of Pd(triphenylphosphine) compounds, the dichloride and other salts. Most of the Pd(0) triphenylphosphine material is clearly crap now (red), but if someone if interested in trying to recover the Pd or reduce it back to useful (yellow) Pd(0) material, I would be happy to discuss that. I also have a number of various phenols, they might be harder to ship, but if someone can think of a use, let me know.

Also, I found a whole pile of like new smaller heating mantles, mostly 100, 200, 250, or 500 ml size, so I am adding them to my spreadsheet shortly.

Dr.Bob - 6-8-2024 at 18:39

Here is a photo of one of the 5L 24/40 rbfs I have (this one has a minor etch around the middle from a PTFE paddle, I suspect), plus a 2L and 4L sep funnel that I have cleaned up. i can provide a PTFE or glass stopper for either one. These are some of the last large sep funnels I will likely have. Asking $50 for the 5L rbf, $50 for the 2L sep funnel, and $65 for the 4L, plus the actual shipping costs. The 2L sep funnel has a straight cut drip tip, the 4L has a small chip on the tip, but in very good condition.

I have several Foxy 200 type fraction collectors available from the lab I am cleaning out. I am happy to basically give them away if you are willing to pay for shipping and handling (my cost of packaging materials) to your address. They weigh about 30 pounds, so not cheap, but likely $100 will get you one. I think most of them work, and I will ship the best ones first, so the sooner you claim one, the more likely it is to be working and cleaner. I have lots of racks as well, I'll send 2 or more with each, whatever fits into the package easily, they will each add a pound or so to the shipping. I just need to find them a home and get them out of the lab. I attached some generic photos as I have a few of them, but no photos yet.

I still have a large oven, a ductless hood for weighing and handling solids (filters the air and recirculates it), and a small benchtop hood to find homes for in the next few weeks. I also have a large stainless enclosure that is about 4 x 4 x 6 feet.

I also have an entire mid-sized hood left to remove (got 2 out already) if anyone wants to find a way to get it. I can't find a photo of it now.

Just sold the bottom three items above last week. The stainless steel enclosure turned out to weigh 1290 pounds, so it was a lot more fun to move that I thought possible. It had been a eclosure for some machine tool originally, and the base was made of 1" thick plate steel, the rest was stainless and thick as crap.

I want to thank everyone for the help cleaning out the lab, it is complete now, the lease is cancelled and a new chemist has leased the space now, so they are keeping the remaining hoods and such, as part of the lease deal. Still sorting out the stuff I removed in order to sell it all, lots of rotovap parts and pieces, lots of glassware, including a ton of glass frit funnels, which I have been cleaning for 2 months. So I now have a lot more frit funnels available, and have tried to update the spreadsheet. I still have more small ones left to clean and add to the inventory, so if you want small ones shown as 0 in stock, let me know, I likely have some and will keep adding them.

Also have a lots of larger erlenmeyers and filter flasks now cleaned, if you have been wanting one, now is the time to act while I have a few to choose from.

Just found yet more glass frit funnels, a bunch of 29/42 ones, and many more smaller ones, 15, 30, and 60 ml ones in plain, 14/20, 24/40 and 29/42 joints, in fine, medium and course. Most are clean, but I have a few that are not very clean, I can do a deal on them if anyone is ok with slightly dirty ones. Also have a very nice pair of polarimeters, one manual one (you turn the dial until the view is black, asking $175 on Ebay, see below, cheaper bought directly) and one fancy electronic automated one, which determines the rotation and can also do all of the math is you set it right with concentration and such. Still getting photos of the fancy one.

Dr.Bob - 27-9-2024 at 14:31

Got another load of stuff processed and cleaned. The biggest thing is an automated Polarimeter. Someone had been interested in it before, but went with a manual one, so I still have the fancy one, an Azzoto® AUTOMATIC POLARIMETER +/-45 model. This used to sell new for ~$4000-5000 and sells used on Ebay for about $1500-2000. The newer model they sell now is over $10,000. I will be listing it for $1500, but if anyone is interested, let me know, it would save a lot of fees to sell it directly.

I also have a whole box of erlenmeyer flasks, mostly 1L Pyrex ones (asking $10), about 6 or so, but many other sizes as well, including one 5000 ml 29/42 stopper top flask (make me an offer). Plus I have a variety of TS 22 stopper top 125 ml erlenmeyers (5$ w/glass stopper). I am trying to catch up on all of the u2us and emails, but I have gotten very busy again, so I apoligze for the delays.

I have one or two Buchi Rotovap R114s frame and motors available from this lab cleanout. The motors works, and I have the glassware and parts to build a rotovap up from them. I do have some various water baths also, trying to test them currently. I also have all of the glassware for these, both water and dry ice condensers available. I would ask $120 for the base, the other parts would depend on which versions you want. This will likely be my last rotovap motors to sell. But I have lots of parts and pieces left.

Another person asked me about pressure tubes. I have a large assortment of them, mostly from Ace, a few from ChemGlass. The larger ones use a large PTFE cap, I have a few but not enough for every bottle, so I would prefer to sell them in pairs of bottles with one cap. The smaller tubes are similar, there are two types of caps, the top sealing ones and the ones with a smaller inner O-ring, both work with any tube, but again I have fewer caps than tubes, so I would like to go 2 or 3 to one there. I would ask $20 per tube for smaller ones, $30 for larger ones, 40 for the small bottles, and $50 for the large bottles. Then $20 for the smaller caps, and $30 for the larger ones for the bottles. If you wanted more tubes or buy other things at the same time, I can provide discounts, same for acedemic buyers.

I have been sorting through some metals and salts to find some chemicals, and found these, which I am happy to sell. Most are open bottles, with a estimated weight, but I will try to confirm the exact weight before selling if someone is interested, or provide smaller amounts, in order to correct the price to the exact weight. I can ship to the US easily, overseas is very tough, but might be possible, but will cost a good bit in most cases.

RBFs W, X, and Y are now gone. But I found a few more 29/42 rbfs in 500 ml and 1000 ml, so I will likely make one more final kit in 29/42 if anyone is interested. Those would be ideal for someone who is recovering or purifying solvents in a liter scale or so. Not ideal for small scale work.

Also I have two 2L graduated cylinders with minor damage, one has a chip on the top pour spout, the other has a big piece of the base missing, but still stands and the pour spout is perfect. Also have a 4L one, all intact, but will cost a bit to ship due to the large size and length. And I still have lots of 1000 ml, 100 ml, 50 ml, and smaller grad cylinders.

Here is one more 2L 3 neck I just found the other day. It has a center 29/42 joint, and 2 side 24/40 joints. Handmade by Prism glassware in RTP NC a few years ago, in very good condition. I would ask $30 for it. I also still have a few 500 ml 3 necks in 29/42, and 1L one and three neck 29/42 rbfs.

Someone asked me about the aldehydes that I have left, someone just took about half, and now have about 50 left. i just took photos of what is left, if you are interested in any, let me know and I will see how I can ship it. I have a few more basic ones as well, in larger bottles, that I would have to ship an aliquot of, to make shipping possible. That would include benzaldehyde and a few other simple ones.

Additionally I have found many more rubber stoppers and vacuum adapters for filter flasks to funnels. If anyone buys a 1 or 2 l filter flask, I will supply 2 sizes of the larger adapters for these flasks. I can also provide a bag of 10 assorted rubber stoppers for $2, or try to find specific ones if you really want them, have solid, one and two holes in some sizes, green and black rubber, plus I have some 14/20 septa in bags of 100, in red and white rubber, those are only $15, they cost $100 from Aldrich. They are a few years old, but still flexible and working well. And I have another entire box of flash columns, from 1/2" to several inches in diameter for cheap. Especially if you want a set of them of various sizes. Just let me know what type of top (S35, 24/40 or open top), reservoir or not, stopcock or not, frit or not.

Dr.Bob - 16-1-2025 at 18:47

I just photographed the remaining 24/40 jointed flasks, I have 2 Morton type rbfs, 1000 and 500ml, 2 250 ml 3 necks, one straight/one angled, a 1L 3 neck, a 500 ml 3 neck with an extra 10/30 therm port, and some other smaller rbfs.

I also found another box of columns, these are just a sample, but I have them from 1/2" to 2 or 3" diam, with and w/o reservoir, w and w/o frit, and w/ or w/o stopcock. I am happy to make deals on multiple columns, typically $10 each, more for larger ones, but I can do a set of different sizes for $60 with lots of extras, including silica gel, flow regulators, extra reservoirs, and you can think of more, I am sure.

I also have yet more various bottles, jars, vials, tubes, and more, hard to list it all.

I have a few things in that list. I took photos a while back but have not yet posted them, as they are mostly in storage right now, but I can dig them out given a little time.

I have one 2000 ml 24/40 3 neck rbf with a bottom drain. - I have not set a price but it is quite a nice flask, looks like new I might have had one in 1000 ml but cannot find a photo of it so far.

And I have a small variety of jacketed fixed kettle reactors, mostly from 250 ml to 1000 ml, maybe one at 2000 ml, but not sure off hand on a 2000 ml one. I do have one big one, 5 or 6 L, but it will be pretty pricey, I still need to research that one and will likely list it on Ebay, they sell new for $5-6000, and this one is pristine.

I had some 10/18 glassware, a micro set which I sold, but I might have a few pieces left, so I will look to see what is left.

Do you still have the 1L reaction vessel seen in the photo?

If I had to burn some benzene under a reduced atmosphere of oxygen, and collect the soot, do you think this might be an acceptable container to do it in? Running cold water through the walls should cool it down enough that if the flames "lick" the sides, it won't break them. And the opening is big enough I can fit in a small ceramic dish of the benzene.

Dr.Bob - 21-1-2025 at 18:02

I do still have most of the reactors show in the previous listing:

http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=15667&...

I also just found a 2L reactor while looking around, it is shown below.

For the 250 ml reactors, I would ask $75, for the 500 ml ones - $90, for the 1L ones, I'd ask $125, and the 2L one below, I'd ask $200. Those are about 2/3 of the lowest Ebay prices I see, which are just for the bottom piece in most cases.

I will have to try to find a matching top, I only have a few of those to choose from. What I DON'T have are the needed O-rings and seals to connect the two pieces. I don't know where they went, but I don't have them, you will need to find them. But they are available. If anyone knows a good source, please let me know. As I get more time, I will try to make sets with those parts, but I have not had time to do that yet.

I don't know if burning benzene will work in these, but it likely won't hurt it. I might even have a porcelin dish that would fit in it.

I also just took new photos of my remaining condensers. I got some for some trades, some I just dug out, and others I have had. I also have a few Wests I have in some 24/40 kits that I am putting together.

I have a bunch of Allihans for $20 each for the unlabelled ones, $25 for the LG longer one. The Fredrichs both have issues, one is new but the inner tube is broken, easy enough to fix, the other one is missing the inner tube and adapter, they would be $20 each. The Vigreauxs are $20 each, and I have two small liebigs for $20 each. The coil condenser are $25 for the Chemglass coils, and the like new Synthware reflux coil one.

I also has someone ask me about stirrers, I have three working ones. I don't have any heating stirplates right now, but trying to get some fixed. The Corning PC-410 is the newest, the dial is damaged, but otherwise it is great, I would ask $60. The Corning PC-310 is older, $50, and the VWR 310 is $50.

Here are two boxes of books I would like to give away for postage only. First come, first serve, but I will be out town soon for a little while, so I may have to arrange shipping then, but books will be allocated basedd on the first to u2u or email me. Cost would be ~$5 for one or two books, ~$10 for a medium sized box, and about $15-20 for a large box, as media mail rate is low for large boxes.

These have been claimed so far:
CRC Handbook
Protective groups in organic synthesis
The excitement and fascination of science
Effective writing for Engineers, Managers, Scientists

Dr.Bob - 3-2-2025 at 19:37

First, a good chunk of the books are claimed for now. I will be out of town for a while, so any other requests I will handle once I get back, as well as any interest for glassware. Once I get back I will catch up on any new requests, as well as post more photos of books to select from. Hope everyone stays well.

SuperOxide - 10-2-2025 at 07:53

@Dr.Bob, looking at the condensers in this reply:

  1. Are either of the condensers still in stock?
  2. Do either of the condensers include the feedstock valve like what you posted here?
  3. On both of those condensers I see a red fastner nut thing, do you know what that's for? Im wondering if it could be used for a temperature probe for an R-205 rotovap.

Dr.Bob - 22-2-2025 at 22:00

I think I have sold those, but might have a similar one left, I will check now that I am back. I do have lots of simple water condensers left, that are one piece. The red nut is where you can also hook up the vacuum, or put in a vacuum meter. I might have one which can hold a temp probe, but they are not very accurate in a vacuum, so I rarely use that. But I will see what I have shortly.

For everyone else with questions, I will try to get back to you soon now that I am home, but it may take a few days to get caught up. Had a greta time away from work.

Dr.Bob - 25-2-2025 at 06:02

Here is another list of books to give away, I have a few people that asked before but were too late, they get first dibs on these, but any other requests will be first come first serve.

Superoxide,

I don't have any water condenders like shown above, but I do have several of the simpler ones like shown below. They can also be set to allow adding more material while in use. The red nut is a cap that seals the vacuum inlet, but can be replaced by an inlet adapter or other 5mm tube. The first two has threaded hose adapters, the second two have standard hose barbs for the water and vaccuum lines. I can provide the stopcocks, threaded connector and other parts as well. These are listed on Ebay for up to $200, but I would sell them here for about $150, plus shipping, depending on what other parts you need.

I have yet a few more big things to sell. First off is a large rotovap, which I do not know much about. It likely worked, but I don't know for sure, and don't have the space or time to test it. The good news is that means I just want to sell it for parts or repair, and you can have it for a fraction of its original cost. Shipping would likely be more than the cost, so if you are near NC it would be easier to arrange a low cost way to pick up or deleivery it. But I can try to arrange shipping as well, for enough money. Make me an offer or let me know if you are interested.

Next up is a chiller/heater circulator system. From USA Lab, a UHC-50/40 system that sells new for $10K. It is fairly new and was working recently. It was used with a large jacketed reactor. This we are looking for an offer of $3000 to $3500, plus shipping or pickup. Also available, a huge vacuum/pressure pump from GAST, a 4565-V150, a 6HP motor, runs on 208V 3 phase. A big momma. And last I have a portable clean room, 8 x 8 x 8 feet, with Hepa filters, fans, lights, and more.

I am trying to organize my items a bit better and sort through a bunch of remaining boxes to unpack and list. But a few things have come up that people were asking about a while back. I have found one or two more 4L filter flasks with side arm inlets, these are huge filter funnels made from very thick glass, Pyrex I believe. Those I ask $40 for, plus shipping, and these are in very good condition.

I also have two 24/40 joint kits mostly made up, which would be 4 or 5 rbfs (you can help decide which ones are included, with one 3 neck rbf), a dist. head, condenser, curved vacuum inlet, gas inlet, and stoppers, keck clips, and other bits. Again, I can try to included requested items or add others like addition funnels, more condensers, and much more. Those are typically $100, but can vary as you add or subtract items.

I also have found yet more fritted funnels, some with 14/20, 24/40 or 29/42 joints built in, some stright stemmed. Plus lots of filter flasks to use them with. And I have some new 100 ml grad cylinders, plus many used ones in a few sizes, with a kit of 5 various sizes about $25. And many volumetric flasks.

I am trying to repair and check a few final stir/hotplates, those may be my last. I also have a number of variacs from old and OK to newer and nicer, that run from $60 to $100 plus shipping. And I only charge real shipping, so the more you buy, the lower the actual shipping cost per item. Thanks to the many people who have helped me clear out much of the backlog of glassware that I had, I am hopefully to keep shrinking the pile.

Dr.Bob - 9-8-2025 at 07:45

Here are some more heating mantles I just unpacked. They are for 150, 250, 500, and 1000 ml rbfs, all are Glas-Col, cords are included. The prices would be the ones in the spreadsheet, except for that second 1000 ml one is very beat, so it would be 1/2 off of the listed price for used.

Also just found a Coors 60245 Buchner funnel which is listed as 125 mm filter paper (this one seems tight for that, but works OK.) They have a 600-700 ml working volume above the filter plate. Made of Porcelain. This particular unnel seems to have a rough interior due to what looks like a medocre glazing job by Coors. Otherwise it looks almost new, barely ever used. Someone asked for me one of these a while back, if they contact me, I will give them first dibs, but otherwise it can be yours for $40, plus I have a partial box of 125 mm Whatman filter paper I will include with it. Shipping might be $10 or more as it weighs over 2 pounds.

And finally, I just found a box full of pH papers, mostly narrow ranges, but here is a brief listing below. I likely have more as well, let me know what you want. If you want more than a few, i can do discounts.

BDH brand - 6.0 to 10.0 range, 100 strips - I have 5 full boxes, I would ask $5 per box (they sell for $30-70 online new)

ColorpHast from EM science - 0 to 6.0 range - I have 2 boxes of 100 strips each, still sealed in original package, I would ask $4 each,

ColorpHast from Em science - 7.5 to 14.0 range - I have 6 boxes of 100 strips each, still sealed in original package, all 6 for $30, (new they are $177), or I can break up the box, but I would ask $10 each.

Merck pH 11-13 box of about 100 strips, $5

GE Starch Iodide test papers in box of 1 books of 20 papers, for detection of oxidants (see below) - I have 2 boxes - I would ask $5 per box.

From Goole: "GE Starch Iodide test papers, also known as Potassium Iodide (KI) Starch paper, are used to detect oxidizing agents like free chlorine, iodine, and peroxides in solutions. They work by reacting with these oxidizers to produce iodine, which then reacts with starch to create a visible color change, typically blue to purple. "

Just found yet another box of heating mantles, likely the last one I have to find, as I thought I had one more somewhere. So if you are looking for heating mantles, now is the best chance you will have with me for a long time. I have sizes from 25 ml up to 1L, maybe a few bigger ones left, one is already sold I think.

Dr.Bob - 17-9-2025 at 12:13

I found a few more working stir and hot plates, have a bunch I am trying to get fixed as well. The first is a simple Cole-Parmer stirring only plate. It works smoothly at various speeds, great for use with a heating mantle or for RT reactions. I would ask $45 for it, plus shipping, likely about $10-15.

Next is an old Corning PC-351, which dates back to when I was in college, but also works well and is very reliable. But due to its age and condition, I would only ask $75 for it, plus shipping, likely about $12-20 (east to west coast).

Lastly, I have a nearly new 2L heating mantle that I just found (asking $60 as it is so nice), it appears to be barely used, and I have a matching 2L 24/40 rbf available for another $20, if you buy both I will go $75 for the pair, again, about $15-24 for shipping both, a little less for either one. (Please ignore the 1L heating mantle under the cord, it is already sold.)

Just unpacked some more frits. I have 3 similar 150 ml 29/42 jointed glass frits, plus an entire box of mostly smaller frits, a few have 14/20 or 24/40 joints, but most are just straight outlet tubes, which are way cheaper and less fragile, which work well with standard filter flasks, which I also have many of. I have pretty much any size from 1ml to 60 ml in course, medium and fine, plus a few 150 ml frits, only one or two have 24/40 joints.

The prices would be the ones in the spreadsheet, less if they are dirty or the outlet tube is chipped. If you are interested in more than a few frits I can offer good discounts, or I can offer really good deals if you are willing to take an assortment, including some dirty ones, if you are able to clean them.

Has anyone here ever bought a job lot of redundant stuff from universities?

Example here (UK):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/257189739572?itmmeta=01KA2BKRVCPD...

This seem to be very cheap. You will have a pile of stuff you don't want of course.
Will the stuff be (mostly) working? or is it scrap.
Seems incredible cheap. You can collect in person to eliminate the 90 str. postage.

There are 3 hot plate stirrers for starters in the above lot.

I have seen and aquired a few things like that. Be prepared that many items will be broken, missing the key parts, empty boxes, etc. But if you can fix a hand full of items from the pile, it will usually be OK. Some of the stuff that I got was from people that bought lots like that for one or two items, and sold me the rest for a token amount. In some cases there are great things. But often there will be bottles with no caps, shorted out electronics and dirty stuff. Good luck with it. Elemental Scientific has soem similar lots.

Been having a hard time getting on here, but here are a few more stir/hotplates for sale. I can provide more photos and details if you send me an email to email them to. B and D are being checked still, they might need some work to stir smoothly. Feel free to make offers. I posted a few stir plates a few posts back.

A. PC-320 Stirring hotplate – Corning – 575 watts - Well used, but working. Stirring is smooth and heating appears to work sell. High power for heating. Ebay price is $125 to $150, I will take $120 here plus shipping, which will be about $12-20.

C. PC-353 – Corning – Stirring only, an older unit, but still working well. 25 watts Cord is worn and frayed a little. Stirs perfectly from slow to fast with smooth stirring at all speeds. Asking $25 for this as it is old, but works well.

E. IKA analog heating stir plate – model RET S1 basic - has slow ramping stirring to avoid wild stirbars. 630 watts. Missing one foot, so will need shimming to sit level or replacement foot. The stirring does not seem to ever get to full speed, might be limited in overall stirring speed. Asking $125

F. IKA digital heating stir plate – RET CV 81 – 620 watts – Has digital speed and heating controls, slow stirring ramp up to full speed. Dials have a very slow adjustment, so need multiple turns to get to full speed or heat. Ebay price is $125 to 150, so asking $125
