Method for preparation of Potassium Permanganate

Exothermic - 5-6-2008 at 16:54

Hi all,

I am after one or more methods of manufacturing POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE (please include forulars if u have them). I have seen some posts on this subject but methods used were substituting chemicals and had impurity issues. I have access to a number of pure chemicals so there should be any problems.

From what i have researched so far one method use manganese dioxide and moltern potassium hydroxide then disolving the potassium manganese in water and bubling air (O2) through it until it has converted to potassium permanganate.

If I am on the wrong track please correct me.

thanks for the thread.

I am new to this site as you can see :).

Why would you want to make this common, cheap, abundantly available reagent? There may be a few places you can't buy it but there are plenty online.

The synthesis of KMnO4 is fun, thats why...most of the chemistry on this site is simply for that reason.

Some further synthesis of KMnO4 is discussed here: https://sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=3856&...
And within that thread also contains links to other permanganate threads.

To keep from repetition, this thread is closed.
